For our next Monumental Change site, JGI New Orleans Co-PI Courtney Bryan @cbryanmusic takes us to Harmony Circle, a historic site in the Garden District.

As we move through New Orleans ahead of Monumental Change, we’re visiting places across the city that hold histories, stories, and questions about how we remember the past and imagine what comes next.

What do the places we inherit ask us to remember? What might they help us imagine?

Bring those questions with you to Monumental Change: Memory, Civic Healing, and Collective Imagination
Saturday, October 10 | 11 AM–5 PM
Xavier University of Louisiana

What connects all of this music? James Brandon Lewis @jamesbrandonlewis is following the thread ♾️

For his Continuum Fellowship, Lewis is asking what curation can look like when the music doesn’t have to fit neatly into one category. As he puts it, “Let’s operate in our highest selves and get to the THRU LINE,” finding the thread that connects it all.

Before we gather for the Monumental Change symposium, we’re stopping at places across New Orleans that hold the histories and stories at the heart of the conversation 💡

📍 First up: Tremé

JGI New Orleans Creative Director Dr. Denise Frazier @biologybibliography takes us to the Tomb of the Unknown Enslaved Person at St. Augustine Catholic Church to reflect on the history held in this sacred space.
