It’s been a week since the election. I took some time to reflect, regroup, and think seriously about the future of our city.

Now I’m back with an announcement:

We’re running for mayor again in 2030.

What if learning about local government was actually entertaining?

The Second Floor is a proof-of-concept pilot created to show how comedy can help residents better understand how our local government really works. The goal is to make City Hall relatable and easier to understand through storytelling.

If you enjoyed the pilot and want to see more share it with someone who cares about our city.

Who hired Newark’s Director of Information Technology, and what did the hiring process look like?

In February 2026, the Department of Justice announced that Darrell A. Smith Sr. pleaded guilty to stealing government laptops in Washington, D.C.

The laptops were part of a $1.6 million government technology purchase. He sold several for personal profit and deleted security footage to cover up the theft.

Newark records identify Darrell A. Smith Jr. as our IT director in 2025. I’ve also heard claims that one of his first decisions in Newark was purchasing laptops with city money.

Tonight on What’s Up Newark, we’re bringing residents together to prepare a group OPRA request to get the records and find answers.

The ancestors are not too proud of Obama. He says they are haunting him.

This is why I listen to them so closely. I never want to have this kind of relationship with the ancestors. by @jhamayor

Tonight at 8:30 PM on WUN, I’ll be chatting with Alif Muhammad about Newark’s political and social landscape.

We’ll discuss violence and murder in the city, allegations of corruption, how power operates here, and the historical influence of the NOI in the city.

This is a conversation about institutions, power, history, and the forces that have shaped Newark.

I hope to see you in the chat tonight at 8:30 PM on Facebook and YouTube. taken in Newark, New Jersey by @jhamayor
