POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

I will always love rehearsals as much as performance. This was the first time that we worked out the kinks of a mashup idea I had, the night before the concert. This has all the elements I love: the unassuming prowess of @chans.thomas, the triple threat that is @pastorjoybloom, the fun-loving powerhouse that is @mariaemuzik, and my brothers in groove, @rjdrums__ @jermainewilliamsbass and @zachfisher84. Figuring it out can be fun. We’re finding what works. We’re exploring the possibilities. We’re seeing what goes where. We’re appreciating what each person brings to the table. We’re learning the real lyrics, and what they mean. And then the light comes on. Think about it: what if life was just like rehearsals like this? Anyway, I got really talented friends, and I’m grateful. #newmusiccomingsoon #tta by @jharriswhite

“He’s not done with me yet.”
Recently there’s been a wave of fear and despair that people have subscribed to, seemingly out of nowhere. There are those that are close to me that have accepted hopelessness, as if doom is inevitable. So there are two things that I’ve decided not to do: 1. I WILL NOT GIVE UP ON GOD. 2. I WILL NOT STOP PROCLAIMING HOPE IN GOD. We’ve got life to live and purpose to fulfill, and God’s got prayers to answer. Special thanks to @ta_tarrant and @stjohnsdowntownhouston for an impactful night of worship, my sis @iamsimplycheryl and that amazing team for allowing me to join you, and @chandlerdmoore for a timeless declaration. “He’s not done with me yet.” #morethanable taken in St. John's Downtown Houston by @jharriswhite

Around this time 30 years ago, I was a member of the Florida A&M University Gospel Choir, which hosted a ministry intensive on a certain Saturday. They had a two sessions: one for ladies and one for gentlemen. The guest minister for the gentlemen was one @lspensersmith, a choir alum who was serving as an associate pastor at the time. I had no idea that this particular service would mark me forever. As this great man ministered to this small group as if it were a room of thousands, he walked the aisle and slightly stumbled. As I was sitting on the edge of a row, Bishop Smith braced himself by grabbing my shoulder. He thanked me as he regained his balance, but didn’t let go of me. He stopped his teaching to briefly speak over my life, a charge that ignited purpose and answered my prayer. Bishop L. Spenser Smith has always been a man of impact, and I am one of many whose lives have been irrevocably changed for the better because of it. Thank you, Bishop.
Everyone, please help me wish the inimitable L. Spenser Smith a Happy Birthday today! #hubbaspense by @jharriswhite

NIKKI ROSS BELLAMY.

One of one.

There has never been a musical maestro like Nikki. Not just her inimitable vocal prowess, but her uncanny musical ear that set her apart. She heard things that others didn’t, which allowed her to try things that others wouldn’t, and create musical moments that no one else could. I’ll never forget being on a concert lineup with Nikki, sitting next to her as she lovingly and genuinely supported every performer, and then proceeded to get on a piano and merge “Available To You” by the Thompson Community Singers with the chorus of “Earth Song” by Michael Jackson - and it actually worked!

More than her tremendous musicality, her heart is what makes her a legend to me. If she knew you, she didn’t forget you. Sharing stages with the likes of Kirk Franklin and Harry Connick, Jr. didn’t change her. No matter the setting or the company, Nikki always showed me genuine love whenever we saw each other. She was “good folks.” We’ll always have her music, but the world lost one of the good folks today. May the grace of God comfort her family and all who loved this legend.

Thank you, Nikki. Rest well. @nikki.l.ross by @jharriswhite
