The Gift of Legacy From Nani to Us

When I was a child, my Nani gifted me hand-carved wooden blocks.

Back then, I didn’t know what they truly meant. I only knew they made beautiful shapes when dipped in ink and pressed on paper. I would spend hours sitting by her side, my little fingers blotting patterns on every scrap I could find pages, newspapers, school notebooks.

She’d watch me and smile.

“One day, you’ll use these on fabric,” she’d say.

Years later, her words echo in every saree we create.

Those blocks were my first tools.
The rhythm of block printing - the press, the lift, the reveal became the heartbeat of Jheeni.

Each piece carries the imprint of those early days, that childlike wonder, and the warmth of a grandmother’s love.

This is more than fabric.

This is memory. This is legacy.

This is her gift, our story.

Made slowly, naturally, and by hand. 🌿

Jheeni Dabu sarees are crafted using cotton, natural dyes, and traditional Dabu resist printing with a handmade mud-resist paste. The little variations and earthy colours are not imperfections, they are the fingerprints of the process.

No artificial perfection. Just the beauty of cloth made the old way.

A lot of people tell us, “Jheeni sarees cost more than what we usually see.” And honestly, we understand where that comes from. 💙

But the price is not just for a saree. It carries the time, skill and work of artisans, along with the beautiful, slow process of making colours naturally..

Our sarees are made using 100% natural dyes, sourced from plants, flowers, fruits, roots, minerals and even things you might find in your own kitchen or garden.

🌼 Yellows & oranges: turmeric, marigold, onion skins, pomegranate rinds
🌹 Reds & pinks: madder root, beetroot, sappanwood, lac
🌿 Blues & greens: indigo, purple cabbage, spinach and natural overdyeing
🤎 Browns & greys: walnut hulls, tea, coffee and cutch

Even something as simple as onion skins can become a beautiful dye. A plant grows, an artisan gathers it, prepares it, extracts the colour and slowly brings it onto the fabric. There is a whole little world of craft behind that colour.

So when you see the price of a Jheeni saree, we hope you see more than a piece of clothing. You’re supporting the hands that made it, the traditional knowledge behind the process, and a slower way of creating.
