Today marks 4 years since my mom went to be with the Lord. That day she passed still shocks me and I’ll never forget it. My mom was my best friend for 20 years and she was the person I could turn to no matter what it was about. Her passing wrecked me mentally and spiritually. I’m still struggling to this day and I still struggle with accepting that she’s gone. At her funeral, I was only able to say that my mom passed in room C136 and that Psalm 136 is the Psalm I want people to read and think of my mom. If I could say something different now, it would be this: Mom, you were the most loving and caring mom I could’ve asked for. You supported me through so much and you always put me first. The love you had for me is the greatest amount of love a son could receive from his mom. We had so many memories and fun times together that I’ll treasure, carry, and pass on to my kids. While you’re absent from the body, you’re no longer in pain and you are now with the Lord. The one you taught me about since I was a kid. You kept the faith and you are now able to get the crown that was laid up for you. I know if you could’ve chosen to stay with me, you would but I also know that you have more joy than ever before in heaven. I love you, miss you, and can’t wait to see you again one day.

Dealing with grief has definitely been a long and difficult journey. There’s days you’ll be on cloud 9 and days you feel like giving up. While no one or anything can truly take the pain away, I’m so grateful for the support system I have and the friends I’ve made over the past couple of years. I want to thank my dad for being there everyday and making sure that I’m ok, providing for me, and stepping into a double role since my mom passed. My dad made sure to be at every monumental milestone in my life and continues to be there. He stepped in and picked up all the broken pieces, even though he was grieving and struggling himself. I don’t know where I’d be now if he wasn’t there for me. I also want to thank all the family, friends, pastors, and church community that stepped in and helped lead, guide, and support me when my life shattered. I’m grateful to have people around that always check in on by @jhunter02_

Hello everyone! Today marks a year since my mom passed away. The past year has been difficult and challenging. I was shocked with her passing but even through the sadness and sorrow, I knew that I had promises I made to my mom that I had to keep. One of those promises was graduating college and going to law school. I am happy to announce that I will be upholding the first part of that promise and I will be graduating in May 2024! After graduating, I will pursue my Juris Doctor to continue holding that promise. I thank God for keeping me during this hard time along with bringing me to this great achievement.

My mom was loving, kind, compassionate, a devoted follower of Christ, and she saw the best in everyone she came across. In an effort to keep my mom’s legacy going, I created the Butterfly Effect scholarship. This year, our recipient of the scholarship is Bryanna Giles. Bryanna is a hard worker and a dedicated individual who wants to build the African-American community by building the community around her. Congratulations Bryanna! (Picture is on the last slide)

This year was the first year for the Butterfly Effect scholarship, and it won’t be the last. In May of next year, I will be hosting a pop-up shop to support small businesses along with fundraising for the scholarship. I believe this, a pop-up shop supporting other small businesses, is something that truly demonstrates my mom’s character. When she owned Genesis Beauty Supply, Wanda hosted many pop-up shops to support small businesses. She did this because she understood how hard it was to run a small business so she wanted to empower others. After stating all of this, I would like to say if you own a small business and would like a table at the scholarship fundraiser please message me privately.

Finally, I want to thank all of you friends and family for continuously checking on me and my family and for your prayers. I know I don’t respond to all of your messages or answer the calls but believe me, I am thankful for your continuous love and support. I look forward to hearing from you all that own small businesses and I hope to see you all in May!

God Bless, Joshua Hunter 💜 by @jhunter02_
