Is a 16kWh lithium battery actually worth ₦2M+ in Nigeria?

The answer is: sometimes, but not for everybody.

A large battery can make a lot of sense for a household already spending heavily on generator fuel, especially where the goal is to keep essentials running through the night.

But the mistake is starting with:

"I want a 16kWh battery."

Start with:

"What exactly do I need to power, and for how many hours?"

That determines the battery, inverter and solar capacity you actually need.

In this Procurement 101, we break down:

⚡ What a 16kWh system can realistically power
💰 What these batteries currently cost in Nigeria
⛽ How that compares with generator fuel spending
🚫 When a 16kWh battery may actually be too much
🔋 What to check before buying any lithium battery

The goal isn't to sell you the biggest system.

It's to help you buy the right one.

New stock has landed in Lagos, and they are available now!!!

Walk the yard with me. Toyota RAV4s, a Highlander, a Nissan Navara pickup, and more on the ground, ready for inspection. No waiting for a ship, no stories. What you see is what is here.

Thinking of your Christmas ride? This is the time to lock it in while the choice is wide.

DM me the word LAGOS for prices and full details on any of them, or call +234 810 696 2241 to arrange an inspection.

Follow @gobuyhub for new arrivals as they land.

One box that can carry your AC.

This is the ISOURCE Africa Energy all in one solar system, and in this video I walk you through what it does and why a compact system like this makes sense for homes and small offices that are tired of fuel costs and generator noise.

Before you buy any system, start with your loads. Know what you need to power and for how long, then size the system to match. That is how you avoid paying for the wrong setup.

Interested? Call or WhatsApp 08106962241 and the EcoLux Energy team will help you work out the right fit for your home.

Follow @gobuyhub and @ecoluxenergy_ng for honest energy guidance.

At the Nigeria Energy 2026, and I spent it on the floor.

No speeches. Just stands, products and conversations. Storage systems, hybrid inverters, electric motorbikes, and the suppliers behind them, answering a buyer's questions face to face.

This is the part of the work I enjoy most. Anyone can scroll a catalogue. Walking the floor is how you learn what is real, what is coming, and what questions to ask before money moves. An expo like this compresses months of supplier research into three days.

Five things I never skip when I am assessing any supplier, here or anywhere:

• Start with your loads, not the product. Know what you need to power before you ask anyone for a price

• Ask who handles warranty and repairs in Nigeria. A good product with no local support is a future problem

• Ask what the battery works with. Compatibility between the inverter and the battery is where many systems fail

• Take the datasheet and the contact, not just a photo of the stand. The real quote comes in the follow up, not on the floor

• Never judge a system by the stand price. Installation, batteries and transport decide what you actually pay

Full findings from the week are coming in the next posts. Follow @gobuyhub so you do not miss them.

Day 2 at Nigeria Energy 2026, and what a week it has been so far.

Nigeria Energy is where West Africa's energy industry comes together. Manufacturers, suppliers, regulators, installers and investors, all under one roof at Landmark Centre, Lagos.

I came here to deepen my knowledge of the Nigerian energy sector through @gobuyhub .Nigeria lives with a huge energy deficit, and renewable energy has grown fast in recent years. An expo like this is where you connect with suppliers face to face, ask the right questions and understand the market properly. That understanding is exactly what we are building @ecoluxenergy_ng on.

The best part has been the people. I finally met in person an energy expert @engr_oliesilas I have followed and learned from on Instagram for a long time. We had spoken online before, and meeting like minds face to face is a different thing entirely. I also met the Chairman of the Enugu State Electricity Regulatory Commission. The conversations alone have been worth the trip.

Two days in, one more day to go. If the first two days are anything to go by, Day 3 will be just as full.

Are you at Nigeria Energy this week? Say hello if you see me around.

You’ve imported your EV from China. Now where will you charge it? 🔌⚡

Welcome to Part 5, the finale of our GoBuyHub EV Series.

We’ve covered import duty, charging economics, landed cost and battery health.

But there’s one last thing many EV buyers overlook.

Can your home actually support the car you’re buying?

Take our BYD Seagull example.

A 2.3 kW portable charging setup could take around 15–16 hours for a near-empty-to-full charge.

A suitable 7 kW wallbox could reduce that to approximately 5–6 hours, subject to the vehicle’s charging limit and actual conditions.

But charging speed isn’t everything.

Your home’s electrical capacity, wiring, safety protection and power source matter just as much.

And in Nigeria, where many homes depend on a mixture of grid electricity, solar and generators, understanding those limits is essential.

Before buying a Chinese EV charger, make sure the connector matches your car and the installation matches your home.

The car was the purchase. The plug is the ownership.

💬 Comment HOME and we’ll send you our GoBuyHub Home Charging Setup Checklist.

Know what you need before paying for an installation.

In the market for a used EV from China? Don’t choose the car with the lowest mileage until you know the condition of its battery.

Consider two illustrative 2023 BYD Seagulls with the same 30.08 kWh battery.

Car A: 61,000 km driven, 93% battery health.

Car B: 38,000 km driven, 84% battery health.

Using the same assumed driving consumption, the higher-mileage car could have approximately 21 km more calculated range per full charge.

These are examples, not measured vehicle results.

Why the difference?

Battery ageing depends on more than mileage.

Geotab’s 2026 analysis of over 22,700 EVs found average battery degradation of around 2.3% per year, with meaningful differences associated with charging behaviour and climate.

That fleet average does not predict the condition of an individual Seagull.

Before paying a Chinese supplier, request a VIN-linked diagnostic, arrange an independent vehicle and battery inspection, verify charging compatibility and confirm whether any battery warranty can actually be honoured in Nigeria.

The odometer tells you how far the car has travelled. It doesn’t tell you everything about the battery.

My team @gobuyhub works with mineral sites in Nigeria that we cannot yet test.

The sites are there and some look promising. But without exploration equipment, we can’t drill, sample or validate whether a site is lucrative or not. So it sits.

This is the loop I keep running into. You need data to raise money, and you need money to get the data. Investors want proof. Proof needs rigs, sampling and lab work. Rigs need capital. And around we go.

It feels like holding a treasure map with no shovel.

I was at my first Nigeria Mining Week in Abuja this month, and the momentum is real. Government and business are getting behind the sector, and people in the room were asking serious questions. But most of the conversation is still about the minerals. I’d like to hear a lot more about the machines it takes to find out what’s actually down there.

After 10+ years in procurement and supply chain across Nigeria, China and North America, that’s where I look first. Equipment, logistics, maintenance, getting the right machine to the right site at the right cost. That layer decides how fast Nigeria’s mineral potential turns into projects someone can actually finance. 🇳🇬
