There is nothing else that can compare to being out on the beach casting into the surf. But when you hookup and others hookup on something that you created it makes it just that much better. Working a Jig for me is an art in itself working the jig through water that flows uniquely through the ever-changing surf structure. Here are some of the fish I put on the sand for 2019 season. I would say the 2019 Surf Fishing Season was not to bad but not the greatest at the same time. My numbers were better than last year but quality size fish were not. This season I’ve probably only landed 3 fish over 30” with the biggest well over 40” but the average size for me this year was 24-28”. All in all I got my PB Surf Striper this year, my first two Popper Stripers ever and a Surf Lingcod as well so I’m really happy about that! With all the new and Veteran Fishermen this past season really taking responsibility in giving back and only taking what they need I can only hope for a awesome season for 2020. Good job to all you guys who are believing that we can make a difference so that one day we can land multiple big fish in the future thank you all and thank you for the support as well!! When you can’t seem to find a fish small enough to keep I don’t know if it is a curse or a blessing? 🤷🏻‍♂️.

In light of all the new and younger faces on the water this season, let’s keep in mind that while we’re helping guide these future anglers into becoming more experienced and skilled fishermen, we also have a responsibility to educate them on why we’re still able to enjoy these opportunities today.

I still remember when I was younger—I kept every fish I could get my hook into. It wasn’t until the anglers before me took the time to teach me and change my perspective that I truly understood the importance of protecting our fishery.

Some people care, and some don’t. To those who do care, thank you. Because of those lessons and that mindset, my children now have the privilege of experiencing the same passion I have—chasing these fish from the rivers to the beach.

I understand that things happen, and you can’t save every fish. Catch and release is also a skill that takes time, practice, and experience to develop. But we can all start with responsible harvest: take what you and your family can use, respect the resource, and consider releasing the breeders so future generations can experience the same thing we do today.

Teach the next generation, respect the fishery, and keep the passion alive. by @jigaddict
