I’m finally getting around to posting the process video of painting the Florence Duomo! It’s wild to think this took me around 2.5 months to complete.

If anything, this is a small glimpse of the trials and joy of developing this piece. My technical oil painting skills grew significantly throughout the entire process and furthered my confidence as a painter.

I still miss this view everyday. I’ve never been in a city that appreciates art as much as life itself. Grazie, Firenze. 🇮🇹

Firenze, Italia! 🇮🇹

15’ by 13’ - oil on canvas

I meant to share this finished painting a while ago. No amount of words or paintings could explain my time abroad. Living in Italy brought me new reasons to live fully every day, taught me to engage with new adventures, and to seek beauty in every little thing. I will never forget seeing this view from Via dell’ Oriuolo every morning!

This painting was extremely challenging, and is characterized by dramatic lighting and immense detail. I highly enjoyed the technicality of it, particularly the walls of the Duomo. The street facing the Duomo includes some favorite locations of mine, including Biblioteca delle Oblate (the free public library and rooftop) and Trattoria L’Oriuolo (one of my favorite Tuscan restaurants). by @jigsaa_studios

Doing these little studies is my favorite way to practice various techniques. Using a smaller canvas allows you to focus on something specific- color, contrast, shadows, shapes, etc., all while developing skills to apply on larger paintings!

I just love how light dances on water. It gracefully moves with the shapes in a striking way, making it even more fun to paint.
