I’ve had a few fathers in my life which is also to say, maybe I’ve had closer to none. ⁣
⁣
So naturally, I rehab through stories of healed fathers, fathers who are in healing, those wanting to heal and those who cannot. ⁣
⁣
This project is a continued seeking into intergenerational dialogues, a theme I am intimately shaped by. ⁣
⁣
The love and survival. ⁣
Shared with and in spite of each other. ⁣
⁣
Thank you for allowing us your love letter, Chris. Your words were what I had hoped to hear from my own appa. ⁣

Summer of 2019. ⁣
We went to Jones Beach with Dre to dance during sunrise. The plan was to sneak in and do our thing until we got stopped for not having a permit. ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
We didn't want to attract attention so Dre danced without music while his partner read one of his poems out loud. He danced to Cecil's cadence and the ocean sounds over and over again while Matt followed with his camera. We did this until we got kicked out.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
When I came home and sat with the footage, it wasn't clear what this project was. I only knew that I didn't want to make just another dance video. ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
"Can I hang out with your parents?" ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
⁣
I met Macia and Chris on a Saturday. I went into the quietest room in the house with each of them, separately, and placed a recorder in their hands before stepping out. ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣

"Dre danced a love letter to his life, a declaration of what you helped create. Will you record one for him? Things you may have already told him, wished you could tell him, hesitated sharing with him...just anything you'd like him to have in your own voice, in your own words. This video may outlive us all."⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
None of them knew what they recorded for each other until this Saturday, a pandemic year and a half later.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣

Label no.2 of the #CareLabelSeries is [Do Not Iron]. In this story, Mary + Andrea share what that could mean doubly by dropping one of the best relationship advices and reflecting on aging. ⭐️⭐️ by @jihye.co

Story no.2 in the #CareLabelSeries ⁣⁣

While thumbing through the closet one night, I realized that the same language that reminds us how to care for our clothes can be applied to how we care for ourselves and others.⁣⁣
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁣⁣
2nd label in the series is ‘DO NOT IRON’. It is Andrea + Mary's story. ⭐️ ⭐️ ⁣⁣
