Jim Strong - My Enemies are mine to keep LP on @hornofplentyrecords available for pre-order now / release date: September 27th

Excerpt from “the measure” featuring @weyesblood / slide 2 cover photo outtakes

Jim Strong is a US based artist and musician who in recent years has left a trail of enigmatic releases on labels such as Vitrine, More Mars and Chocolate Monk. He will also be familiar to some for his past work with Melkings, Eyes of the Amaryllis, and Weyesblood. Now HoP is pleased to announce Jim’s first solo vinyl outing.

My Enemies Are Mine To Keep is Jim’s most clearly defined statement to date. Its sides illustrate his self-sufficient, world-building methods through a mixture of orchestral miniatures and eerie, haptic pop songs fashioned from the artists home-made and invented instruments.

The attention to process does not over-shadow Jim’s commitment to making deeply affecting, human work. With his unique mechanical orchestra wheezing behind him, Jim’s heartfelt vocals (plus a duet with long-time collaborator, Natalie Mering / Weyesblood) guide listeners through themes of futurity and isolation observing, among other things; the macrocosms of a break up; the discovery of a dead body in a sleepy beach town; and an angel measuring the shape of God.

My Enemies Are Mine To Keep’s unique sound palette & approach to songcraft make comparisons futile but if we have to we’ll say Joe Meek, Harry Partch, Voice Crack, & The Incredible String Band. Capiche?

October 15th! On this edition of Environs we are excited to witness the possibilities of friends and collaborators creating experimental work together in real time. Daniel Fishkin and Jim Strong’s works are variously informed by the invention and crafting of handmade instruments, and practices that run from environmental and site-specific work to visual and sound art. Willow and Skye present a collaborative performance combining experiences in ecological writing, environmental science, music, and art. Host Harrison Adams opens the evening with keyboard explorations informed by deep listening and natural phenomena.

Also present for the occasion: the Environs Zine Library.

FJORD is pleased to present Wicker basket and a short knife

Dates: October 10, 2026 - November 14, 2026

Opening Reception: October 10, 6-9PM

Featuring the work of artists Melissa Joseph @melissajoseph_art , Anne Minich @anne.minich , Jim Strong @jiim_strong and Ezra Tessler @ezratessler

The title for this show comes from the last work of American poet Paul Zweig, whose depiction of foraging for mushrooms captures the raw, exuberant act of searching for and gathering what he calls “God’s litter.” The studio as a site of foraging is the main theme connecting these artists. But they are also linked by their exploration of craft, the overlap of painting and sculpture, and the blurred line between values of high and low.

These varied practices featured in the show share an impulse to scavenge. In Zweig’s words, they search the forest for “those brown, perfect domes/With milky meat and fat stems bulging like barrels,” salvaging discarded objects and memories, scouring their archives, photo albums, studios, and surrounding streets. In doing so, they seek the wild and overlooked material of the world and repurpose it into the new and the unexpected. by @jiim_strong

Out Now: Jim Strong/Opera Benezet split cassette.
A very healthy northeastern tour complete, we present new material dug deep from the archive. A ravenous punk song Jim recorded when he was 12. A water damaged tape of a precarious bachelor party in the woods. We are currrntly sitting at Tina’s diner drinking fine kiwi mesh, egg white omelettes with boiled cabbage to my side sits a disgraced politician not wearing any shoes one of his ears is bleeding and my corresponding ear, the one facing him is getting uncomfortably warm.

Thanks to everyone who helped set up the shows, southern leg to come by @jiim_strong

“Inside the tower”
Carved wood
2026

On Saturday May 23rd it will be the one year anniversary of the passing of my best friend and collaborator, Logan (Digbee). I will remember the absurdity of the moment I found out forever. I was trying on funny hats at the thrift shop when I received the call from his mother. I was expecting him at the house later that day. He was going to stay with us for an unspecified period of time to get well, it was unclear from what. After the brief call, I wandered outside and saw things, wether hallucinating or something else. I was afraid these images would never stop. In time I would paint my front door yellow, adorn every surface with holy cards and blessed objects all to ward off what was coming. What had already arrived was strangely familiar and it’s still here. What else can you do? Grief is a living thing. A terrible stream with its own intelligence. it likes to touch everything. It’s Occasionally funny, in a cruel way. I’m still finding the energy but I’ve been carving these little mice from the legs of the pews from “Agony in the Garden”. Which was about the half way point between then and now. This past year was just holding on moment to moment, a weird blur. the recent months have been the most difficult but there is movement. I started going to therapy. That’s new for me. I was always a little suspicious. It’s helped not just with this but also with starting to explore (almost) 40 years of unaddressed stuff. It all weaves together. I would like to see people more. I don’t know if this sculpture is me, or him, or both of us, or everyone I’ve ever loved that for one reason or another isn’t here. I keep him by the bedside table with the donkey and an icon of the dormition of Mary.
