The Toronto Era. The best, worst times ☠️
3years ago I moved to Toronto to start a new chapter of my life and leave behind any darkness from the past. When I got to the city I swear my eyes doubled in size and all I could do was just skip around and say “wow, I’m actually here.” I didn’t know what hardships were ahead, but I also didn’t know all the fortune and joy I would experience. In Toronto I moved 4 times, 2 of those times completely alone. I learned the weird system of the ttc, memorized street names and intersections so I could give instructions to lost tourists-this made me feel so cool :) I discovered bagged milk isn’t a myth, I got a concussion, bruised my tail bone, cracked my rib, got strep throat (which resulted in me going to the doctor by myself for the first time at the ripe age of 20). I graduated college which is one of my proudest achievements, since theatre school is NOT EASY and always made me feel like I was about to be caught for being stupid and untalented 😀 I wrote and produced my own show which almost gave me an ulcer because of how stressed out I was, but I am so proud I did it. I booked gigs, listened to buskers on the side of the road and in the subway, got chased by a homeless man. I’ve also spoken to a complete stranger on the subway for 45 minutes about life. I’ve belted out Defying Gravity for strangers waiting in line for the bar, I’ve screamed at men who catcall me or cars who almost hit me (Toronto drivers scare me). I’ve rehearsed for thousands of hours, worked my fingers to the bone, my vocal cords raw, my feet callused. Toronto can annoy me with horrible air quality, constant honking and sirens, insane squirrels on steroids, and wind that actually draw tears from my eyes. There were times I was tired of walking over 10km most days simply because I wanted to save money on transit. But on days where I could go into a coffee shop, and look out and see all the skyscrapers, people rushing, and billboards, it would make me forget the little stresses. Going to Dundas square I always visualize myself on those billboards. And I think my time in Toronto has launched me forward exponentially.

See you in a little while, TO taken in Toronto, Canada by @jill.leavitt
