Ready or not, winter is coming.❄️⛷️ If you’re a winter outdoor enthusiast, here is your cue to get moving. Whether you’re a novice or a pro, fitness is key to holding those crisp turns you’re seeking all season long.
If you already have a fairly solid fitness base, try adding these three moves into your routine to prep your body for the slopes and trail:
1. Raised Leg Push-Up Burpees. 3 sets of 10-12/leg. Keep your core engaged. Keep your back from swaying.
2. High-As-You-Can-Go Single-Leg Step-Ups. 3 sets of 10/leg with or without added weight.
3. TRX Side Planks-3 sets of 15/side. Place the top hand down if you need assistance. Make sure you keep your body straight.
Looking for dialed-down versions or modifications? Drop a comment below or send me a DM, and I’ll share a follow-up post! 👇✨ Amd if you’re interested in having me draw up a program to get you ready for the slopes, send me a dm.

Rather than waiting to ski 🎿 yourself into shape, here is your cue to get in the gym 💪 and get to work.

I’m now 6 months post-op from a full knee replacement and ready to go. This was my 14th knee surgery and by far the most invasive. It’s been a humbling journey and I’m still on it. But if I can reach this point with a new joint, you certainly can too.

Slowing down or taking “no” for an answer just isn’t my strong suit. When PT was moving too slowly for my goals, I took ownership, stepped out, and took charge of my own rehab.

Building the strength, stability, and resilience to ski the way you want starts long before you step back into your skis. If you already have a solid fitness baseline, here are a few key moves to help you prep for this upcoming Super El Niño winter and keep you strong, confident and injury-free this season:

👇

1️⃣ Mobility/Strength Flow – Opens up tight hips and fires up stabilizing muscles for deep, dynamic turns. 2️⃣ Sissy Squats – Builds serious quad strength and bulletproofs knees for steep terrain and deep snow. 3️⃣ Hanging Abs – Core stability is your steering wheel on the mountain—keep it locked in. 4️⃣ Adductor Up-Downs – Strengthens inner thighs and lateral stability to keep your edges locked and knees protected.

Save this post for your next leg day, and let’s get ready for winter! 🎿⚡

Honored to be featured in VoyageUtah Magazine! 💫

My aim in everything I do is to help people find and live their inner truth. To achieve overall wellness, it’s essential to balance body, mind, and soul—because without balance, we cannot reach our fullest potential.

What truly makes me happy in my work is seeing people stand a little taller, smile a little bigger, and re-remember who they truly are without all the limiting stories and beliefs. Who they were before life told them who they should be.

Who were you before the world told you what you were supposed to believe?

Send me a DM if you're interested in 1-on-1 coaching, workshops, or speaking engagements!

Life is already hard enough and I no longer wish to be around people who make it harder. Instead, I wish to be around people who bring a sense of joy and peace.

Spending a lifetime in competitive sports and many years as a pro athlete, I’m used to all kinds of personalities, and I found that I often acquiesced to keep the peace.

Years ago, I called a friend for guidance through a tough moment. Instead of support, she unleashed harsh words and cruel statements. When I asked her to stop, she claimed I needed “brutal honesty” in order to hear her. I told her that was absolutely not the case and that brutal and honesty do not belong together.

That was a relatively mild instance, but I realized I was allowing that kind of treatment across most areas of my life.

After years of weeding out what no longer serves me and taking an honest look in the mirror at what was mine, what was not and what needed to be released, now when I encounter a version of that “friend,” I simply tilt my head and turn away.

Being around unkind people who take you out at the knees for pure sport is not okay. Speak up where you can. Walk away when you must. Know that you deserve better.

The world’s 🌍 had a heavy charge lately, and I’ve been feeling it to my very core. Over these past months, I’ve been sitting quietly with my thoughts and haven’t felt much like writing while processing things and leaning on those closest to me.
Then a few weeks ago, the opportunity presented itself to visit the North Shore of Oahu. No, it wasn’t an ideal time to step away—for plenty of reasons. But it was the exact rest and reset I needed.
While there, I hiked, swam (no surfing just yet—giving my knee a few more months of healing, belly laughed, stared at the ocean for hours, watched the Harvest Full Moon, and went within.

Coming back, I bring home the peace and gratitude for the ocean (Mamacocha) of such a beautiful island. I also return with hope that just on the other side of the mess, we are entering a season of rebirth—a renewed way of being where we can lean into kindness, greater love, acceptance, and a deep reverence for all that is sacred, including our earth. 🌊🍃✨

Three months post-total knee replacement (three weeks ago), a single misstep off my porch sent me into max flexion. I blacked out from the sheer pain and sound of it. When I came to, I was on my hands and knees off the porch, trembling and shook to my core. I literally had to butt-drag myself back into the house just to reach my phone, terrified I’d snapped something.

Thankfully, I had essentially given myself a non-surgical manipulation. After a few weeks of stepping back and letting things settle, I am up, moving, and back at it.

Rebuilding after an injury requires a big, long lean into the hard work—both in the gym and in the mental space outside of it. But that grit is necessary to climb mountains on my bike, arc turns on my skis, and live a fully active life which I need to fill my soul.

My hope is that sharing this journey isn’t just about my own recovery, but a call for others to put down their self-imposed limitations and tackle the hard and the daunting. We all have to confront that inner saboteur. May we learn to become our own biggest cheerleaders and support system.

Embrace the difficult. Like water, through persistence and grace, we find our way over, around, or through. And maybe—just maybe—what we find on the other side of “hard” is a whole lot more beautiful than what we knew before.

Recovery isn’t a straight line. It’s a test of grit, patience, and knowing when to trust yourself.

Inevitably, we’re forced into those “in-between” moments that demand a pause. It could be an injury, a major setback, or life simply bringing us to our knees. Some of these moments hit without warning; others, we see coming. Regardless, your mental approach will either make or break your success.

Three months ago, I had a total knee replacement—marking 8 knee surgeries total on this leg alone. When my PT called my knee “persnickety,” instead of agreeing and feeling defeated, I took a deep breath and asked him to look at the surrounding scars—reminding him and myself all that this knee had already been through even prior to the replacement.

He paused and agreed.

Before the surgery I asked Dr. Davis, when I could expect to be back on my moutain bike and climbing, without pause he said, “Two months.”

Six weeks after surgery, I told my PT’s what the doctor said, and both replied with wide eyes, “That is a bit ambitious as your bones haven’t even healed by then.”

Eight weeks came and my knee wasn’t bending well, my incision was infected, my quad wasn’t firing; and my gait was still a limp and I wasn’t feeling very patient, instead, I was mad. Patience was not a choice for me at this point and it has never been a strong suit of mine, however, I had no other choice but to lean into it, choosing to do so with grace instead of berating myself and my body.

So, I eased up, listened to my body, reassured my restless soul and leaned into the hope of being back on my bike soon.

Twelve weeks post replacement and it was time to trust my gut (sorry to my PT’s) and three days ago, I suited up, got back on my mountain bike, and started to climb.

To anyone sitting in the middle of a long wait, a tough recovery, or a setback that feels endless: breathe, trust in the unknown, be kind to yourself, do the work and trust yourself.

You’ll find your way back and maybe this time it will be that much sweeter. And when you get there, don’t forget to cheer for how far you’ve come. That is where the magic lies.

Have you ever stopped to listen to how you speak to yourself in the quiet moments? In the in-between moments? If so, what do you hear? Are you cheering yourself on? Are you kind? Whose voice is speaking? Is it your grandmother’s, your father’s, or the mean bully at school?

Look at the photos of yourself as a child. Would you ever say the things you whisper to yourself today to that little kid?

As I went through old photos this weekend, I could see and feel who I was at the time of those moments—and who I am now. The person I am today would stand up for that younger version of me. Who I am now would hug the heck out of the younger me and whisper a fierce reminder: “You are more than capable.”

May the same be true for who you are right now. And if it’s not, what needs to die? What old version of you, what limiting belief, or what old voice are you still keeping alive?

We spend a lifetime letting old echoes dictate our inner narrative. But you have the power to change the channel. The next time your inner critic takes the mic, pause, remember exactly who you’re talking to, and offer yourself the fierce kindness and truth you’ve always deserved.

Unprecedented times call for unprecedented love. ✨

In a time of divisiveness, let your superpower be love. These past years, it seems like there is division everywhere we turn. But we don’t have to participate in it.

May we lean into breaking the illusion that we are separate from our neighbors—that it’s an “us against them” world. Instead, let’s choose to build bridges based on love, acceptance, kindness, hope, and mutual respect for one another... even when someone doesn’t look exactly like you or love exactly as you do.

Let’s choose community. Let’s choose to build one another up. 🤝❤️

Be the light. Bring the joy and share it with abundance. Give to others—whether it’s a smile, a kind word, a meal, or your time. We all have something to give. May it be sweet, and may it be supportive. ☀️

The Sweetness of a Full Rotation 🚲✨

Three weeks ago, I was handed a new baseline. A total knee replacement means starting over from zero. It demands patience—something that doesn’t always come easily when your soul is wired for movement, grit, and pushing boundaries.

But rehabilitation isn’t just about healing; it’s about negotiation.

The goal was simple: get on the stationary trainer and work on mobility. For weeks, it required a raised hip just to achieve a full pedal stroke, and even then, the pedal rested only on the middle of my foot. It was a constant process of rocking forward, rocking back—testing the absolute limits of swelling and scar tissue.

Yesterday, things changed. I achieved a full, smooth, 360-degree pedal rotation indoors.

If you’ve ever had to fight your way back from an injury, you know the breakthrough moment your body remembers exactly what it was built to do.

And because I am an outdoor creature to my core—where riding is a literal extension of who I am—I looked outside today and decided it was time.

The trainer inside was great, but the sunshine was calling. So, I may have slyly wheeled the bike past the door and onto the actual pavement. 🤫 Just a tiny, ultra-careful, hyper-focused spin to feel the wind on my face and real ground beneath the tires.

(Dr Davis, if you’re reading this... let’s just call it advanced neuromuscular re-education. 😉)

Progress isn’t a straight line. Sometimes it’s a circle—one hard-earned, gritty pedal stroke at a time. To anyone out there fighting through a setback, a surgery, or a slow rebuild: keep rocking the pedals. The breakthrough is coming.

As an athlete, I was often asked in interviews who my biggest opponent was. My answer was always the same: “Me.”

That opponent has tested me through 14 knee surgeries, a broken hand, fingers, hand surgery, concussions, a broken foot, and two broken sternums. And right now? We are going head-to-head again.

I’m currently two weeks post-op from a total knee replacement. It’s been an interesting ride, balancing a strict cocktail of rest, ice, more rest, and the delicate dance of “walk—but not too much.”

Last week, I stepped back into the gym. Pull-ups might feel good, but the real victory is the muscle memory kicking in and the simple grace of walking (so soon post surgery) with only a slight limp. I’m incredibly grateful that my body and my muscles are showing up for me—only this time both of my knees are back in alignment.

Here’s to leaning into the hard—even when it’s not pretty, and especially when you simply don’t want to. Here’s to holding onto the big picture and embracing the grit of the journey. It’s a wild ride, but maybe, just maybe, the comeback will be more than worth it. 🦾✨

Several years ago, a woman said to me, “You’re very hard on yourself and great at setting goals, but don’t forget the importance of patting yourself on the back and celebrating the little victories.”
It’s been just over a week since I had my knee replaced. I’m not going to sugarcoat it, last week was rough. My body doesn’t handle coming out of anesthesia well, and my leg didn’t feel like it was my own. This week, I fell down the stairs, got back up, walked a block unassisted and yesterday, I even walked through the grocery store only to then need a nap. Then today, I completed full pedal rotations on my bike.
May we all remember to celebrate the victories and not get lost in the race to the finish line. May we remember to handle ourselves with grace even when it’s not easy. May we lean into the “suck” and remember that it will not be forever and what’s on the other side just might turn out more beautiful than we ever could have imagined.
