Saturday I applied the protective coat of poly on the Wessington Springs tryptic American 250th mural!! The project occupied quite a bit of my summer and scheduled painting around the heat and the rain. My first out of town project! I have so many videos/photos and need to spend some quality time putting a fun reel together! Thank you, SAKOTA, Springs Area Council of the Art! taken in Wessington Springs, South Dakota by @jillkokesh

Happy Birthday America! Wishing everyone a safe and joyful celebration wherever you are this July 4th and America’s 250th celebration!

Finished the first panel of the Wessington Springs mural project organized by the Springs Area Council Of The Arts-SACOTA and funded by various local businesses and organizations in Wessington Springs.

What we thought was going to be a one panel project has turned into an additional 2 panels, making it a triptych mural! That means I’ll be returning to WS in July! I look forward to the design work and painting in the coming weeks as long as the heat and the storms settle down a bit!

I hope everyone is having a great summer so far and if you’re curious about the mural, take a 90 minute drive on HWY 34 East from Pierre. It’s a gorgeous drive along the river and countryside! taken in Wessington Springs, South Dakota by @jillkokesh

My favorite colors were in the sky during a long walk along the river this evening. I saw a fellow photographer out photographing the sunset and she tossed a rock in the water in front of her and I was inspired to do the same! So magical to see such beauty! taken in Steamboat Park Pierre, Sd by @jillkokesh

Happy New Year! Was able to get some much needed creative time in by taking some mindful walks along the frosty Lake Oahe and Buffalo Gap Grasslands along the Cheyenne @wildideabuffalo. My camera has always been my image gatherer for inspiration, although I want to carve out some time to draw in my sketchbook. Disciplining myself to sit with my pencil and the blank page. Sitting still, observing, breathing, allowing my mind to drift and eventually make intentional marks to express whatever the heck it is that needs to spill out of my mind and heart. The rusted plier was discovered this past week when my yard was dug up for a new sewer line. Love, Peace and Joy! 2026 by @jillkokesh

Last week I attended @deborahmitchellartist Monotype Workshop at the Studio of Dale Lamphere (South Dakota Artist Laureate) and the future home of Lamphere Studio for the Arts near Sturgis @lampherestudioforthearts. I mostly attended to support my friend Deborah (SDAC Artist Fellow 2024) but ultimately embraced a fellow artist teaching me and falling in love with a new medium/tools to tap into some ideas that have been running around in my brain for quite some time! The workshop provided one-on-one art time with Deborah, Dale and other artist attendees! Being surrounded by Dale’s art in and outside of the studio was inspiring and magical! #hifromsouthdakota #southdakotalife #southdakotaartist #artteachers #artteachersofig #artteacherlife🎨 by @jillkokesh
