I’m beyond grateful to share that Taga will premiere at the 2026 #SundanceFilmFestival as part of the Short Film Program. 🖤

Shot in the mountains of the Philippines, Taga is a folk-horror film about identity, intrusion, and the stories that existed long before we arrived.

This project has been a deep personal transformation for me. It began with a question I was afraid to ask: what stories have I been too scared to tell—because I thought I wasn’t enough? Not talented enough, not bold enough, not Filipino-enough. Making Taga taught me that when you fully embrace all parts of yourself and step into the work you’re meant to do, the universe will open up.

Sundance has been a dream of mine since I was eight years old, and I can’t fully express how grateful I am that we’re going. Thank you to my Taga team— there is no way this film could ever have existed without your talent, hard work, and courage. Thanks for believing so fully in this film.

This week we are highlighting our grantees of the Julia S. Gouw Short Film Challenge for 2024! Next up, meet @JillSachs!

JILL SACHS is a Filipina American filmmaker based in Los Angeles. She pours into her stories a signature cocktail, one-part dreams and a dash of obsolescence. From that potion... occasional ghosts may arise. She is still trying to cope with the degree to which time, space, and culture control and define us.

A current AICP mentee of Shelby Ross and Harrison Boyce, Jill has recently directed several short form projects, including ‘Bones’, a surreal music video for the Aussie band, Telenova, which recently won ‘Best Music Video’ at Deep in the Heart Film Festival. This summer will see the premiere of ‘Vinta - Diwata’, a fashion film celebrating the label Vinta, and a personal meditation on identity and Filipina ancestry.

Jill graduated from the @AmericanFilmInstitute in 2017 with an MFA in Directing. She wrote and directed her AFI thesis film, “The Liberty”, which premiered at the 2018 Ashland Independent Film Festival, and won a smattering of awards on the festival circuit.

In the commercial world, Jill has worked with some of the greatest storytellers including Alejandro Iñárritu, Wally Pfister, Chloé Zhao, and Mark Romanek. She currently works as an Associate Producer at Psyop. Previously, Jill graduated from the University of Chicago and supplemented her education by backpacking alone across five continents. Jill is interested in exploring the convergence of technology with classic storytelling, and enjoys toying with narrative mediums, and secretly experiments with XR.

One last stop! 🖤 TAGA is wrapping up its festival run next Wednesday at the Newport Beach Film Festival! @newportbeachfilmfest

As we head into our final screening, I wanted to look back and celebrate just a few of the wonderful festivals and adventures from this spring and summer. So many incredible films, places, and people along the way!

It’s been an epic journey sharing this little film from the mountains of the Philippines with audiences around the world. So grateful to everyone who has welcomed us and supported the film along the way.

And if you haven’t had a chance to see TAGA yet, we’ll be premiering online very soon! More news to come. 👀

Very excited to finally share MARISOL, premiering worldwide on @tubi October 2nd as part of BITE SIZE TERROR 🪞🖤 @tubi

I had such a wonderful time directing this strange little ghost story about grief, sisters, and what happens when you go looking for the dead and something else answers instead. Shot in London with an incredible cast and crew, and written by my friend @jedshepherd. Can’t believe we made this whirlwind of a film in less than 2 months!
