I'm still trying to put into words how much this weekend has impacted me without being too saccharine. I don't think it's possible though.

On the surface it's just a fan being able to experience a cool weekend themed around her favorite music artist. A Medium Build vacation as I joked about it last week. It almost feels so silly to make it anything more than that—but something has shifted.

I don't want this to be one grand trip that fades into foggy memory, although it will. But what parts about this weekend can I pull into my everyday life? It's the connection. My ability to show up authentically, and truly connect with the people around me.

I have a shit ton of social anxiety, which makes it really hard to open myself up in a lot of environments. Events surrounding shared interests, like birding or music, allow me to get outside of my head and just enjoy the people around me. I want to do that in everyday life. I want to take the feeling that I felt this weekend - that I could walk up to anyone and strike up conversation - to be a mainstay.

Although I struggle with social anxiety (and just trying to cope with that to make a living is exhausting), community has always been something I've held with importance. But after a work day of keeping my shit together, I default to escaping to my apartment and isolating.

But I want everything that comes with a strong community, and that takes real fucking work. I keep shying away from that with one excuse or another.

This is when I usually smack right into a brick wall. I want it so so so bad, but can't quite get there.

I am going to try really fucking hard to get there this time.
