I’m playing catch up on the entire summer! Last Saturday, I joined my good friend Amber, her new kidney (Kevin, I think) and Max for The Kidney Walk. The best part, other than the company and the pink tutus (always a hit for me) was the fact that Amber was able to finish the full 5K just three months after her transplant. She always amazes me and I can’t tell you how happy I am for her. It was perfect minus the wasps. We even got to watch salmon taking a swim up river. You had to cheer for the ones who were able to make it up the wall. Thank you to everyone who sponsored our team - we raised more than $4,000 together for the Kidney Foundation. #kidneywalkcanada #kidneywalk by @jilly_whoops

Three years since October 7th. Three years since the worst slaughter of Jewish people since the Holocaust. Three years of hatred on a global scale. Three years of people defining antisemitism to Jews. Three years that included waiting for our h0stages to come home and seeing them look like Holocaust survivors. Three years of saying never again. Three years but to most Jewish people I know, time has stood still. Three years of knowing that we will survive this too. Three years. by @jilly_whoops

It’s Kol Nidre - the eve before Yom Kippur. Jewish people around the world are simply trying to observe the holiest day of the year. Ever since I moved to Toronto, I’ve gotten used to a police presence on the high holidays and having my handbag searched. Toronto is a big city. It’s expected. Belleville had a police officer on duty. If they didn’t - who knows what would have happened to the 2 dozen congregants.

All I know is that there are 15.6 million Jewish people in the world. I’m proud to be one of them. I’m fed up with the hate, the discrimination and the “what aboutisms”. I’m sick of politicians saying “This is not Canada.” I’m afraid it is. Most of all, I’m sick of the silence. You are supposed to repent and offer forgiveness on Yom Kippur so although I forgive the silence through all of the hate, I won’t forget it. And I also won’t be intimidated by the hatred. A Film by Dana Levenson is a bit of an understatement. IMA (Mother) was a masterpiece that left the audience gutted as she told the stories of Israeli mothers who lost children either on October 7th, at the playground at Majdal Shams or in Gaza after being taken h0stage. Two stories have happier endings. Every single story was told with elegant restraint and compassion.

Dana - I am so so proud of what you accomplished. IMA was beautiful. Your hard work paid off and the only flaw was that these women had to share their stories to begin with. Bravo!

Shopping with a local in the fresh markets of Hanoi was an experience. The fish were still flopping, some were swimming and the crabs were still crawling. They put a lot of importance on serving fresh food and many people go to the market daily. It was quite an experience and we got to see the real side of Hanoi.

Yes, there is a Pho Museum in Ho Chi Minh and yes, we went. We had about an hour to kill, and it was really interesting. I wouldn’t say it’s a must see, but if you are ever in Ho Chi Minh, it’s fun! Bonus spice candle making at the end. #việtnam #phomuseum by @jilly_whoops

I made an ooopsie - our first stop is actually Hanoi! I figured that out at the Tokyo airport. Day 1 was amazing! My favourite part was the scooter! by @jilly_whoops

My lovely friend Samina texted me one night. She asked if I had seen Paranormal Activity. I had not. She said I would like it. I made Anne Caddoo go. Well, I didn’t make her, she just also likes being scared. It was so good and really different for a stage play. Go and see it. I learned a lot - mostly if Samina tells me I’ll like something, I probably will. by @jilly_whoops
