Autumn Equinox! 🍂🌙 I have too many mushroom pics for one phone, so I’m sharing some (SOME) of my best finds. Imagine this is a village market vegetable contest competition but foraging not farming.

The first mushroom I felt was worth taking a picture of, and truly the best Amanita Muscaria (Fly Agaric) specimen I’ve ever seen to this day.

First time intentionally foraging with Amber in 2023 led to finding Chanterelles: an illusive mushroom for sure! Last year we found the biggest and most unusual trumpet shapes. Tasted delicious in a risotto.

I worked as a modelmaker at LEGOLAND Windsor, and thought this chicken of the woods was made of GRP (Glass reinforced plastic). Nope. 100% real. It got removed and sprayed shortly after corporate saw me gassing it on reddit.

Massive Maitake from 2025. In Feudal Japan, this mushroom would be traded for its weight in silver!

PARASOL. Macrolepiota procera: My favourite fungi. They are the biggest UK mushroom and they’re a joy to spot a field over. Tasty between a bagel too.

Grey Oysters, the “exotic” mushrooms you find in Tesco. Beautiful diagonal flush, I frequently go back to this stump and haven’t found them since .

Pictured with me smiling in the first pic. Perfect porcini specimen. One of the most sought after gourmet mushrooms. Welling up thinking about it.

IYKYK. Most teenagers Mushroom-Moby-Dick. Stumbling upon these feels like acing a maths test you didn’t revise for, or maybe winning the lottery, idk I haven’t done that yet.

Not the biggest beefsteak but definitely the weirdest. Not pictured is the “bleeding” effect when you cut into them, from the myoglobin, protein in water. No chitin in this mushroom either, so it’s one of the few you can eat raw. Latin name is Fistulina Hepatica, since we’re listing trivia.

Big conk!

Winter chanterelles, massive flush. Every other autumn leaf was actually a mushroom. Amber dehydrated buckets of these, and she was still eating them at Christmas.

Just like this picture. Mycena Haematopus I think.

Albino chicken of the woods!!!! Very little online about this as it’s such a RARE find. Felt like we were contributing to science logging this on iNaturalist

Van stuff from 2025. Long way still to go but it was in a camp-able condition by July this year.
Huge thanks to the spare pairs of hands and words of advice I’ve received.

Looking forward to creating a wooden interior in 2026, and getting out and about even more than 2025. by @jim.bug_
