Jack Johnson at Merriweather. 🌲🎶

The Columbia traffic situation? 💩 But the show was worth it.

Jack threw in some unexpected music including: a live accompaniment to “The September sessions,“ a surf documentary he filmed in 2002.

At his bass players request, he also nailed the cover of “Roadrunner” by the Modern Lovers.

Then came the moment of the night.

A woman held up a sign saying she’d found one of Jack’s CDs in her dad’s car after he passed away and asked if he’d sign it. He stopped the show, took the CD, signed it, invited her to watch the rest of the show offstage, and handed it back with a hug.

Of course he did. 😢

Some artists perform songs. Others remind you who they are.

And some venues find fun ways to keep the crowds out of very specific areas.

My only complaint? The three drunks behind us who decided to have the loudest networking happy hour in Howard County. They talked through almost the entire show—so loudly people two rows ahead turned around with Paddington-worthy hard stares. Read the room. You’re not the main character.

The show wrapped around 11, I had to be up early the next morning, and I may or may not have tried to sleep on the ride home with a plush peanut.

That nap ended abruptly when the car was driven over what the driver insists was an animal that had already been hit (no photo).

Last night, our best dinner yet: @asiancafelakeanna served up an amazing sushi spread—including our first “hunamori” sushi boat—beautiful, flavorful, and by far the best sushi we’ve had in ages. Highly recommend if you visit Lake Anna. One last look from the dock with my shadow, Samantha 😆 a.k.a. Sammy or Sammy-Cakes the #groodle. Yes, Goldendoodle-poodle mixes are Groodles everywhere else on the planet. Let’s stop trying so hard to sound cute.

Sophia turned 20 on our trip to Lake Anna 🎉 We dined in style at @lionsden1837, a gorgeous lakeside steakhouse with a Tarantino‑meets‑vintage set feel (think Hateful Eight). Later, we discovered a 5‑foot teddy bear that was more creepy than cute… so naturally I relocated it nightly after dark like a massive elf-on-the-shelf. The girls were freaked out and returned the favor. Dinner + bear pranks = unforgettable.

Rain rolled in on our planned boat day on Lake Anna, so we made a day out of it. Stopped at Century Farm Market for local goodies and then off to downtown Fredericksburg for window shopping—wrapped up with giant pizza slices at @bennyvitalis (28” pies that could feed a small village 🍕😊). Perfect storm-day plans.

A spontaneous family getaway to Lake Anna, VA turned into paddle‑boarding, kayaking, dock chilling—with our pup in tow and warm water vibes all around. Sometimes a few hours on the lake is all you need to reset. 🌊🐾
