In November 2014, then U.S. Senator Al Franken, Chairman of the United States Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Privacy, Technology and the Law, expressed concerns regarding ride sharing privacy, specifically Uber’s “God View”, whereby the whereabouts of specific customers, including journalists and politicians, are able to be tracked by Uber insiders.

In December 2014, in response to Franken, Uber implemented restrictions on that function.

In 2012, an Uber employee tracked the frequency of probable one-night stands in six U.S. cities by day and neighborhood, by correlating late-night and next-day trips. The blog posting coined the term “ride of glory” for the Uber equivalent of a walk of shame. by @jimswill

The diorama of my adult life ended up a lot more violent than I expected

I was not building roller coasters or drawing pictures of dragon ball z for a living

I was sleeping in a car , not even a cool car, in a very hot and busy parking lot

The mist they spray on vegetables in the grocery isn’t just water, it’s a hospital grade disinfectant but I still find comfort in the degraded audio of a thunderstorm ,

It makes me nostalgic for a time when I wasn’t paying for things, a feeling of safety and warmth, i need these audio cues like a ride to let me know we’re having fun

Ignore My credit cards that look like they’ve been run over, chips degraded to the point I cant tap insert or swipe they just have to do a manual entry of the digits, my memory now overwritten by a multitude of passwords I can no longer recall, old emails and shattered cell phones that contain pixelated nudes and pathetic cover letters to jobs I never got

the algorithm thinks I have schizophrenia.
Not just on the phone, but on the tv and the radio
In the middle of the night when i’m drifting out
They tell me it doesent always have to be this way
I keep getting ads about a monthly injection. it’s that or a non stop drip of self aware meta advertisements that have been directly transmitted to my television due to my gps coordinates and cookie history stored across my devices. anywhere i go, whatever i buy, anything i look at can tell a story about my behavior and create a model for predicting my actions before i even think about it.
Maybe im not that different, maybe i am predictable
Maybe I’m not schizophrenic yet
Maybe they’re just getting ahead of the curve
Maybe there’s just no other possible outcome when you’re subjected to an infinite loop of predigested information that return as fragments of their former selves to the point of post irony and I’m so deeply online that I’m embarrassed to understand the reference
And when fading out of consciousness I just hear those meme sound bites on repeat by @jimswill
