POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Some conversations carry more weight than others.

Singapore brought together friends, colleagues, and partners I had come to know in different parts of the world over more than a decade. Some questions were difficult to answer, but I could at least speak with honesty and integrity.

It was surprising to find myself invited to 5 different dinners in a single evening. Yet even 30 minutes spent face to face, catching up and promising to meet again, meant something. There are people with whom, even after years apart, you can resonate without the slightest need for adjustment. I guess what I’ve built over the years is not so much a collection of achievements, but these invisible connections scattered across the world.

Meanwhile, I spent a few hours walking through the rain in the unfamiliar streets of Ho Chi Minh. My clothes were soaked with sweat and rain, but strangely, I didn’t mind. There was a quiet sense of freedom in it. No one to meet, nothing to explain. Just a man walking through a city where nobody knew him.

In Singapore, I felt the warmth of being connected to so many people. In Ho Chi Minh, the freedom of being connected to no one.

Two seemingly opposite feelings, somehow leading to the same place.

Growing older seems to be less about finding answers and more about becoming comfortable with the questions that remain.

We spend so much of our lives becoming someone in the eyes of others. Building a name, accepting responsibilities, becoming part of stories that no longer belong to us alone.

And yet, in a city where I was nobody, I felt no less myself. by @jinbyjin

For some reason, the days around my birthday always seem to become more crowded than usual.

I tell myself it would be nice to slow down for a day. But then there are people to see, work to finish, places to go, and before I know it, my birthday has quietly passed somewhere on the calendar.

I used to think a birthday should feel a little different. There should be a special dinner, some kind of celebration, at least one day that stood apart from the rest.

At some point, though, that idea began to fade.

Birthdays, too, seem to become part of ordinary life.

There was no big celebration this year. On the evening of my birthday, I sat alone at a sushi restaurant and had a quiet dinner. Somehow, being alone felt right for that particular night.

The two weeks around it, on the other hand, were full of people. I worked late, had meals with people I care about, drank, talked, and laughed.

Somewhere along the way, the meaning of a birthday seems to change.

Less about how special the day itself was,
and more about who is still beside you.

What you still love.
What you choose to spend your time on.
And who you find yourself laughing with along the way.

A day that makes you think, for a moment, about the things that still matter.

If there are still things that make me lose track of time, people I look forward to seeing, and moments that quietly refuse to disappear,

that feels like enough.

Looking back, my birthday wasn’t really one day this year.

Perhaps it was these two weeks. by @jinbyjin

Songs have a strange way of keeping time.

Long after the room has emptied and everyone has gone somewhere else, something remains - a melody, a voice, a conversation between takes, the memory of people sitting together in a room trying to make something that did not exist the day before.

We rarely know, at the time, which of those moments will stay with us.

But every now and then, a song leaves that room and begins its own life somewhere beyond us. Someone we have never met listens to it on a train, through headphones late at night, or perhaps on an ordinary morning somewhere far away.

And somehow, that makes everything that came before it feel a little more precious.

The people we loved.
The music we made.
The time we happened to share.

Another small piece of that time is now out in the world.

Some things move on.
Some things stay with us.
And sometimes, a song carries both.

Quick dip in and out of Macau.

My first time there, and only a year since I first visited China.

What made this trip memorable was not the place itself, but the people.

There were familiar faces I was genuinely happy to see again, and new ones whose thoughts, convictions, and stories around music stayed with me long after the conversations ended.

The more time I spend in this industry, the more I realize that projects and opportunities eventually pass. What remains is the trust built in between, often quietly, without us noticing.

Sometimes a relationship begins with a brief conversation, then finds its way back to you in another city, at another point in life.

Perhaps that is how certain places eventually become meaningful to me.

Not through where I went, but through whom I met there.

For the past 2 months, I have been running through Yeouido Park 3 or 4 times a week.

Usually for a little over 1 hour. Some days longer, some days less.

The numbers do not matter much.

I put on my shoes, go outside, and follow the path.

By the time I return, my clothes are soaked, my face still holding the heat of the run, and my breath sits high in my chest.

Then I take a cold shower.

Under the water, the day loses some of its weight.

Thoughts, unfinished conversations, things I had carried without noticing - they grow quiet.

When I step out, I feel lighter.

I never used to like long-distance running.

I thought a sport needed a ball.

A ball gives the world a temporary center.

You put it through a hoop or send it beyond the reach of another person. The answer comes quickly.

Running gives no answer.

There is only the path, the body growing heavy, and the next step.

Perhaps that was why I kept my distance from it.

My life had been arranged around visible goals.

I had made a habit of arriving early - in my studies, career, and the spaces in between.

I chose a point in the distance and pushed myself toward it.

For many years, that worked.

Now, as I approach 50s, speed feels different.

Confucius called 50s the age of understanding heaven’s will.

I do not know exactly what that means yet.

But I have begun to understand that certain things cannot be reached by force.

Some things arrive only after we stop listening for the knock.

Letting go is not the same as giving up.

It means keeping the direction without trying to command the road.

At times, the events around me appear to be moving away from the future I imagined.

Later, I look back and see that they were part of the route.

So I am learning to trust the direction more than the speed.

When I lose my breath, I walk until it returns.

If it rains, I can wait beneath a tree or keep running and let the water cool my body. Either way, I remain on the same road.

People will pass me and disappear around the bend.

But take time out of the picture, and ahead and behind lose their meaning.

What remains is whether we kept moving in the direction we had chosen.

This is perhaps what running has by @jinbyjin

Possibility was meant to hold the feeling of facing the inner self, through silence, subtle transitions, invisible conflicts, and emotional fractures.

Of late, I have had less and less time to sit alone long enough even to meditate. But last summer, when this song was written, standing at the threshold of my late forties, I seemed to have more chances to reflect on the possibilities within myself.

Perhaps it was the quiet layers of time already settled between us that allowed the conversation to move so easily, almost as if we were simply speaking of life.

Whenever I returned to the demo, something in me stirred in that familiar, quietly exhilarating way. I’m deeply grateful that feeling found its way to SHINee.

My sincere gratitude to @jopwelldone for another beautiful memory, 아름다운 가사로 함께 해주신 @leericist_sr 작가님, 전달드리고 다음날 바로 연락주신 @miranpark_ 리더님, 애써주신 모든 SM, KMR 관계자님 및 식구들 다시 한번 감사드립니다 ✨🙏🏼💎 by @jinbyjin

“Is it your first visit to Stockholm?”

It was probably the question I heard most last week.

After more than fifteen years of moving in and out of the Nordics, Stockholm no longer feels far away. At some point, Stockholm stopped feeling like the other side of the world and began to feel as close as crossing a river to my studio in Seongsu.

Sometimes an era is marked by a single decisive act. More often, though, a current forms quietly, in the tension between people, in the faint harmony of different frequencies. Before anyone names it, it has already become direction. And then, almost without noticing, we are carried by the same tide.

After the events ended, I walked back to the hotel and noticed that a restaurant I used to go to was gone. It was a small thing, but not an insignificant one. It made me realize how long this city had been living somewhere inside me.

There was a time I came here looking for inspiration, crossing long hours of flight without hesitation. This time, I was simply grateful to return and share something the years had left in me.

Maybe all this time I was only trying to cultivate the inner garden of my own becoming. And perhaps Stockholm, all along, had been a large garden too, a place I returned to quietly, like a butterfly.

“Don’t chase the butterfly.
Build the garden instead.
Even if it never comes,
you will still be standing
in something beautiful.” taken in Stockholm, Sweden by @jinbyjin

I first heard The Cranberries more than 30 years ago, during high school, in a friend’s older sister’s car on the way to a basketball court. I do not remember every detail of that evening, but I can still feel that spring air. Some memories stay not as images, but as a certain temperature that never really leaves you.

Last year, when @brianyouu invited me to The Hub’s Interpolation Camp, I came across the song again in a long list of titles. What began as nostalgia soon turned into curiosity. I found myself wondering how the song might be reborn through a new interpretation.

Since taking on broader responsibilities at both KMR and SM, I have had less time to create than before. Even so, this became a meaningful journey, my first session with @noerio.live after years of saying we should work together, and a special collaboration with @soulkiddishere. From the session to the final version, the song went through around 40 revisions.

Then came the Encore Concert, where @nctwish_official performed it for the first time. Watching them on stage, I felt something difficult to put into words. A memory from decades ago and a moment in the present seemed to overlap without friction.

Trying to create emotions that move across generations and cultures is never simple. Every image, every adjective, every feeling reaches people differently. The process is always both beautiful and difficult. Somewhere along the way, my role expanded beyond that of a creator alone. I found myself connecting countries, people, and different parts of the industry. That path led to an interview feature in China, where I was grateful to share the story behind Ode To Love.

The older I get, the more I feel that very little in life is built alone. What surrounds me now does not belong only to my own effort. It feels more like layers of frequencies, gathered over time through people, moments, conversations, and acts of trust.

And maybe that is what stays with me most:
not only the music itself,
but the invisible layers of people
and time quietly living inside it. by @jinbyjin

It was for an interview feature coming out next month,
but the photo shoot became its own little story,
awkward in places, oddly exciting in others,
and much more fun than I had expected.

@yonasohn made the entire day flow with quiet perfection from start to finish,
and @kimminkyo__ , with remarkable ease, created what I can only assume was a miracle,
making my stiff joints look relaxed and natural.

Some things in life remain beautifully unexplained.
Infinite gratitude, once again 🙏🏼 by @jinbyjin

This weekend, a scent like spring brushed past me all of a sudden.
If you ask whether that was why I felt more alive, the answer is probably no.
It had less to do with the season changing than with Sapporo quietly lifting a weight that had been sitting in my chest for a while.
Those few days, drifting by like a dream, felt like a kind of magic.

When I came back, there was a small mountain of housework waiting for me,
and the furniture needed to be rearranged.
Still, I found myself pausing as I watched me, alone, take care of things one by one.
The thought came, simply, “So I can actually do this.”
And with that, I understood again how precious that trip had been.
More than anything, I felt grateful that I had allowed myself that time.

Even on streets packed with cars,
even among the crowds crossing under green lights,
the snow fell with an almost unnatural quiet.
The only sound was the sound of snow settling.
Softly, steadily.
There was a peace that word fits perfectly.
A moment that felt real, and yet not quite real.

The world of sake was astonishingly wide,
and the food kept waking up the tip of my tongue.
The air was cold but gentle,
so much so that each breath felt like a small cleansing.
Like sake.
The white snow, piled up to my knees,
held its ground under my feet with that crisp, squeaking resistance,
and every step became a brief record of sensation.

Beer was similar.
I had always said only, “It’s so good,”
but inside that glass there was the long effort of someone’s time,
and the pride that came with it.
Once I knew that, I drank a little more slowly.

In the morning, when I opened my eyes,
there was a vast lake sealed in ice,
and I let my body sink into an outdoor hot spring.
I felt the cutting wind on my face
and spent time as if I were listening to what nature was saying.
It wasn’t some grand revelation.
Still, for that moment, it felt as though my heart returned to an exact place.

This dream will probably keep going for a while.
Like snow, quietly piling up somewhere inside me. taken in Sapporo, Hokkaido by @jinbyjin

I’m far too late for this, but Mihaela’s new single, “Under Pressure,” has been released.

The first half of the session went the way it usually does, calm and interesting in a quiet sort of way. I built the track on dramatic orchestration and made it through the pre-chorus. After that, I stopped, thinking about how to lift the chorus. Sometimes it isn’t a question of what to add, but what not to touch.

Around lunchtime, Mihaela and Julia, along with a few artists and writers, gathered and talked over food. I was there, but part of me had drifted somewhere else. I listened, smiled at the right places, and kept moving my fork, but my mind stayed with the chorus, measuring its space and its pulse.

Then a bass riff came to me, the kind that makes your heart beat a little faster. I left my lunch unfinished and went back into the studio, simply because I couldn’t let go of the idea.

When Mihaela and Julia came in, they shaped the chorus melody naturally, as if they were taking something that had already existed and setting it down on the table. There are moments when everyone senses, at the same time, which direction is right.

What matters to me, in any song, is the frequency it carries, and whether it can resonate with me. That’s why I wanted this to be a story about the self rather than a tired love story. Complex feelings often stay longer when they live inside simple sentences.

That’s when a line crossed my mind:

“A diamond is born under pressure.”

It didn’t need much explanation. It contained a lot by itself, challenge, inertia, trust in the process, and the patience to stay with it. It described the story of this song, but it also reminded me that even today, I am becoming a little stronger.

To Sanya and everyone at Virginia Records, who always do their best for Sofia Songwriting Camp, to Robin, who has always been a part of my journey, to Julia, with her gifted talent and genuine heart, and to Mihaela, who shines brighter than any diamond, I’m sending my sincerest gratitude. taken in Sofia, Bulgaria by @jinbyjin

In 2025, like last year, I didn’t make any grand New Year’s resolutions. Nothing I needed to write down and tape to a wall, as if paper could hold a life in place. I kept it simple, one quiet thought: Let’s shine today, again. Calmly. With gratitude intact. And I let the days do what days always do: arrive, pass through me, and disappear.

When I look back, the year began like a storm. I still don’t understand why the important things always arrive first, without warning, as if they’d been waiting behind a door only I can’t see. For a while my breathing was shallow, my words fewer, and my body moved before my mind could give it permission. The calendar stayed dense, each day pinned in place, and responsibility, like it always does, kept traveling with my name. I told myself I needed to be tougher. I believed toughness meant keeping a straight face while everything inside you shifts.

But now, at the beginning of the year, a small comfort remains. Even in that weather, I kept something quiet inside me. I didn’t make it through by clenching my teeth; it felt more like I stopped arguing with the storm and learned how to stand inside it. I thought less about what to hold on to, and more about what could slip from my hands. As the unnecessary fell away, one thing at a time, I realized I could move with a lighter body than I’d imagined.

I began to trust something simple: if I keep my frequency steady, if I live without over-explaining or proving myself, there will be people who recognize it. Sometimes it’s a short message. Sometimes it’s silence that stays close. Sometimes it’s a half-joking line, “Buy me a drink.” Those small signals became an axis. When things grew complicated, I could return to that axis and breathe again. Returning to the center isn’t retreat. It’s how you keep moving without losing your direction.

Maybe that’s how the current begins, the one no one can stop. Not with a declaration, but through the quiet repetition of ordinary days. It’s a quiet force. Once it forms, it finds its way. And looking back now, I’m grateful I let it. This year too. by @jinbyjin
