WHY DO I COMPETE?

I compete in jiu‑jitsu because comfort is the enemy and the arena is the only place that exposes who you really are. When that first grip closes and your heart is pounding through your chest, there’s no hiding. It’s you, your will, and everything you’ve built through sweat, struggle, and sacrifice.
I step into competition because pressure is a forge. It melts away excuses, reveals weaknesses, and shapes something unbreakable. Out there, every second is a test: Can you stay calm in chaos? Can you execute when your lungs are burning? Can you keep fighting when every instinct tells you to fold?
I compete because it forces evolution. It makes you sharpen every tool, tighten every detail, and raise your standards far beyond what you thought possible. You train harder. You think deeper. You become hungrier.
And whether my hand is raised or not, I walk away transformed. I gain truth… raw, unfiltered truth… about who I am and who I can become.
I compete not because it’s easy, but because it’s hard.
I compete because the struggle is where warriors rise.
I compete because I refuse to be average.
I compete because I’m built for more.
I compete not for the medal, but for the transformation!! taken in Ares Arizona Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu by @jiujitsu_george1

After coming up short the past three years, this year 2025 it all clicked and fell in place. Words cannot describe how I feel.
Thanks to my Jiu-Jitsu family that has been there for me the past year pushing me and training with me.
Special thanks to coach @ric_centronbjj for coaching me today through all my matches; thanks to @djradoff for working with me and my game this past 18 months; thanks to @paul_nava_bjj and @ares_arizona_bjj for allowing me to train with his team these past two months; and thanks to my instructors and team at Gracie Arizona - Gilbert!
