( Who the f⋆⭒˚⋆ck said we’re dead? )

A dictionary of Japanese emoticons (顔文字), organized into 11 emotional categories, more than 260 symbols/characters, each with explanations of their origins and usage.

The book’s compact format was inspired by the idea of the “iPhone of the future,” while its title plays on the phrase “the death of emoticons,” as mentioned by netizens and various (graphic) designers. This book was designed in October - December 2024 and printed in January 2025.

A project around my linguistic background. The fragments presented daily conversations between my father, a Dutch-speaker and myself as the translator. The second rows are literal translated words from the other language which makes the translations grammatically incorrect. This represents my reality of straddling two cultures and languages, embodying the challenge of not attaining linguistic mastery in either.
