I commute from Miami to Fort Lauderdale 3 days week for work(work from home the other 2). I found my 12 year old Ford Escape giving out on me and too dangerous to commute in. Thanks to my mom Dr Helen Jackson @netdove_ for support throughout the process. Thanks to my buddy @manswell_t_peterson for encouraging me to make the change.

I now have a new-ish Volkswagen Taos with not many miles on it and good fuel economy for all the driving I do in South Florida....and occasional road trips.

On September 11, 2001, I was 17 years old, standing in P.E. class hitting golf balls when the world changed.

Like so many people, I can still remember where I was when the news began to unfold. At 17, I could not have understood how profoundly that day would shape the next quarter-century — American politics, foreign policy, national security, and the course of the world.

It also shaped my own life.

I would later become a United States Marine and serve in Iraq, one of the wars that, in all likelihood, would never have happened in the way it did without the events of September 11 and everything that followed them. For my generation, 9/11 wasn't simply something we watched on television. Its consequences followed many of us into adulthood, into military service, and onto battlefields thousands of miles from home.

There will always be important conversations about the decisions our country made after September 11, the wars that followed, and the political legacy of that era. But today, my thoughts begin and end somewhere much more personal.

With the people who went to work that morning and never came home.

With the firefighters, police officers, first responders, service members, and ordinary people who showed extraordinary courage.

And most of all, with the families who have carried the absence of someone they loved for 25 years.

Twenty-five years later, we remember the lives that were taken, the families forever changed, and a day that changed all of us.

Financial innovation can create opportunity — but it should never come at the expense of consumer protection and accountability.

Americans have reported billions of dollars in cryptocurrency-related losses, including massive losses tied to investment fraud. That’s why the protections surrounding digital assets matter.

I’m concerned that the CLARITY Act, in its current form, does not provide strong enough safeguards for consumers. When protections are weak, the financial harm can fall disproportionately on working-class families and communities of color that are already dealing with persistent wealth disparities.

We can build a digital economy that expands access to wealth and protects people from fraud, exploitation, and unrecoverable losses. Those goals are not mutually exclusive.
