A few things that I’ve been up to in September and that I’m proud of! Besides particular milestones, I have felt more generally that I am stronger and more confident when I go to the gym now. I’m sending more overhang problems and pushing myself to try unsettling dynamic problems. I feel like being short is also such a blessing when it comes to bouldering sometimes, because you can’t simply cop out and reach up, you have to commit to the hardest moves and really put effort into your technique.

Today marks around 2 months since I first went bouldering indoors and I’m super proud of my progress. More experienced climbers have often been surprised when I tell them how new I am to the sport, which gives me a little boost of confidence knowing that other people see my progress too. More importantly than anything, I’m enjoying myself immensely and I probably spent around 30 hours climbing last month!! I don’t have a particular longterm goal, I’m just climbing for the love of it, and it feels good to have such a motivating passion for something after so long.

Plans for October include bouldering outside on granite again, sending a bunch of V4s and I’m going to introduce myself to the kilter board.

This weekend I went on my first climbing trip to Cheddar Gorge with members of @devonlgbtqcc. I climbed in two crags on the North Side and sent my first outdoor 5a first try! Take a cold and a wrist injury out of the mix, I have only been climbing for 6 weeks, so I’m really proud of myself for pushing out of my comfort zone by getting out on rock and making progress.

When I wasn’t having rocks kicked on me by tenacious goats from above, I enjoyed watching the more experienced people I had the privilege of climbing with do their thing and learnt so much. This trip I climbed top rope, but I’m really keen to start leading by the end of the year (inside if nothing else) and beyond the horizon, the world of trad enchants and beckons me.

Hopefully I can go back to Cheddar and try some of the endless cool routes there, and get more to show for it than just booty shots.
