Some detail photos of the two ambush bugs mating yesterday. It almost seems like male has photobombed my portrait session.

Another photo of blue green elf cups from my fabulous Tiny Forest Café. A tree came down 12 years ago and it took until this spring for the wood to begin to stain. some things are definitely worth the wait! All of my recent posts have been from this tree it's having a good year 🩵

"If you don't eat your meat you can't have any pudding. How can you have any pudding if you don't eat your meat?!"

What in Hell's Kitchen are they serving up now at my Tiny Forest Café? Why am i smelling hot dog water?

They were such a pretty peach color the day before, but my are-they-are-they-not raspberry slime molds have taken a turn for the WURST (🥴) here, and are firmly back on the "mystery meat" steam tray. The lunch ladies are being quite circumspect about ID as well.

And the question remains: if not raspberry slime mold, then what? by @jkanz

Blue lunchmeat, the daily special at Tiny Forest café. Would you try it? Maybe with some raspberry slime mold for dessert!

Chlorociboria is erupting everywhere thanks to some recent rains.

It's beginning to look like raspberry slime mold!

Still not sure, and I am always wrong, but I am leaning towards that. The fat little blorpo springtail has a taste for it as well.

Hello my name is John, and I like to flip logs.

It has been over two months since I last flipped a log to see who lived underneath; this is from late June. I have not flipped any logs since then.

There is so much going on here! My favorite orange forest ants are tending pupa, while a neighboring colony of larger black ants tend to their own. There seems to be no conflict between them.

The orange ants are in a range of sizes. So are their pupa, which leads me to think that the oversized pupal coccoons are queens, or another insect species altogether. But who? The only clue is the dark angular patch you can see in the closeup. Wasp? Moth? They wete attempting to roll them down their tunnels to safety nonetheless, but they were too big to handle.

I suppose there is but one way to find out...

Micrathena gracilis
(Spined Micrathena)
Close as I could get.
I have only even seen them once or twice before.
The next day, I saw another!
Known for their spiked abdomen.
Most active right now.
Look for them in webs at chest-to-eye-level.
Keep your mouth closed.
Don't ask.
