I did this four day backpacking trip in Feb 2024 on New Zealand's South Island

Happy Pride! I had a blast at last year's @kauaiprideparade with the creative pirates of the @napalicoasters @gardenislandrenegaderollerz & @fisheyekauai

Loved seeing so many wonderful humans giving their time, energy, and creative spirit to let everyone know they are loved exactly as they are.

Thanks to @sorbate5 for adding me to the group, @manifestinggmorgann for joining me at the float construction, @folzay for marching with me, @hi95kauai for bringing the energy, @bontaneous and @garrettjgee for cheering us on, @mallibu.delrey and Halau Ka Pu Hula o Hinano for their performances, and @mayor_derek_kawakami for supporting Kaua'i Pride throughout his eight years as our mayor.

This year's Kauai Pride Parade is coming up Saturday, June 6, 2026 at 10 a.m. on Rice Street. Can't wait to see what they come up with this year.

I joined a community workday organized by @eolakakouhawaii to remove invasive Coconut Rhinoceros Beetles from a mulch pile behind the ruins of the old Coco Palms hotel.

Ugg there were so many CRBs! And I could see dead coconut trees nearby that likely lost their tops after the beetles infested them.

We removed eggs, larva, pupa, and adults. A CRB deterrent netting had been placed over the mound to try keep them in place until we could remove them.

The invasive beetles were first found in Hawaii in 2013 at the Pearl Harbor / Hickam military base on Oahu, likely brought over by military transports. They were found on Kauai ten years later. Oahu has already lost many historic trees and quick action is needed to prevent the same fate here.

My photograph "Kalalau Zen" was selected for the 2025 Contemporary Photography in Hawaii exhibition, opening this First Friday at the Downtown Art Center in Chinatown, O'ahu.

The exhibition hours are February 6-21 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tues-Sun (closed Mondays). Admission is free.

I'll be at the opening reception this Friday, February 7, 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.
