POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
We carry so much each day that lingers in our minds, hearts, and spirits. Holding it all inside can feel heavy.

Writing to Exhale: Healing the Unspoken is a 6-week workshop series designed to offer space for release, reflection, and connection through the written word. Beginning February 23, this experience invites you to put pen to paper in community and allow yourself to exhale.

Participants may choose one of two cohorts held at the Kennedy Heights Arts Center Lindner Annex:

Monday Evenings | 6:30–8:30pm
Dates: 2/23, 3/2, 3/9, 3/16, 3/23, 3/30

Thursday Mornings | 11:00am–1:00pm
Dates: 2/26, 3/5, 3/12, 3/19, 3/26, 4/2

Paper and pen will be provided. Bring yourself and an open heart and mind.

Led by our 2026 Artist-in-Residence, Jamie-Lee, sessions include guided prompts, readings, and reflective discussion centered on identity and growth. Writers of all levels are welcome. The goal is simple: create a supportive space to explore your voice, build confidence, and connect with others.

The residency culminates in a free, public open mic celebration on Saturday, April 11 at 7:30pm (doors at 7:00pm) in our performance hall, featuring live music, refreshments, and powerful storytelling.

Attendance is free. Registration is required as space is limited. Participants are asked to commit to all six sessions. Open to ages 14+.

Register through the link in bio.

This project is supported in part by Arts Midwest and the National Endowment for the Arts.

On the cusp of Women’s History Month, I’m excited to share this poem I hold very dear to my heart. I named it “Tone Deaf” because not everyone can understand black womanhood or even lend a listening ear but what I do know is we got us 🤎💋👂🏾

“The Space We Hold” Series is complete. These past 3 sessions were filled with so many stories, vulnerabilities, jokes, and tears.

The original idea for this series was for it to be an open mic in the gallery. But @gee_horton’s work carries a certain soul and spirit in this exhibit — one that breeds warmth and gives us the chance to take off our masks and commune with one another. It became a workshop where people wrote to the art in the space, and we gathered around the baobab tree to build with each other and hold space for one another’s stories and ancestral memories. It was a beautiful experience.

Me and @jleezabeth are so thankful for the opportunity to hold this space for community. We are incredibly grateful.

Thank you to the @cincycac staff for the supplies and support on this project. by @jleezabeth

Overwhelmed, (in a good way🤭) is a nice switch up in the mood for 2026 so far! My inner child is still in awe (and anxious) every time I decide to step up to a mic, but that’s my healing journey🎤

So honored and humbled by the opportunity to create a space for people to write, be vulnerable and connect with each other around the topic of healing. I’m grateful for this gift and look forward to more opportunities to create spaces and stages like this!

Special thank you to @khartscenter for providing me with the opportunity to be an Artist-In-Residence again. Thank-You to all the featured poets who blessed the stage this past Saturday, every workshop writer who braved the stage and shared from their hearts. Thank you to our dancers @ca2dancecrew for adding a beautiful element to the night. Thank-You to every participant who attended the 6 week workshop and contributed their presence and words. Thank you to everyone who volunteered their time to help everything run smoothly. Thank you to our dj @fka.nova for blessing our event with tunes. Thank you to our photographer, videographer and Quentin on sound/lights Thank you to every audience member who came out to support and everyone who sent well wishes from near and far! And very special thank you to @malloryfeltz.artist for all of her help in planning and coordinating I cannot say thank you enough!

(Can’t wait for the official photographer’s photos to drop because I was way too in the zone to take any, shout-out to everyone who sent me footage🥲) taken in Kennedy Heights Arts Center Lindner Annex by @jleezabeth
