July is BIPOC Mental Health Month.

The Junior League of Prince George’s County is dedicated to highlighting the unique mental health experiences and challenges faced by Black, Indigenous, and People of Color. On Friday, July 17th, President Stephanie Polk, President-Elect Maria James, and Secretary Cianna Ajavon proudly represented the Junior League of Prince George's County at a special reception hosted by the Junior League of Washington at its Georgetown headquarters.

The event welcomed Diane Flanagan, President of The Association of Junior Leagues International (AJLI), the global organization that supports and connects more than 290 Junior Leagues through leadership development, governance, training, and shared best practices.

League leaders from across the region (including the Junior League of Annapolis, Junior League of Baltimore, Junior League of Northern Virginia, and the Junior League of Washington) came together to strengthen relationships, exchange ideas, and celebrate our shared commitment to developing women leaders and creating meaningful community impact. Opportunities like these help local Leagues learn from one another and bring fresh ideas back to the communities we serve.

The work of building a stronger community begins with building strong leaders.

On Saturday, July 11th, the Junior League of Prince George's County officially kicked off the 2026–2027 League Year with our annual Management Team Retreat. Bringing together our Council Vice Presidents and Committee Chairs (the dedicated leaders who help turn vision into action) the retreat provided an opportunity to reconnect with the mission, vision, and values that guide our work while laying the foundation for the year ahead.

Led by Executive Vice President Ashleigh Tillman, our day included words of encouragement from President Stephanie Polk, leadership training, organizational planning, and meaningful discussions about the programs, initiatives, and community impact we will create together this year. We also received an exciting preview of our upcoming three-year strategic plan, currently being developed by the Strategic Planning Committee under the leadership of Chair Rashida Weathers-Hurst.

From collaborative conversations and fresh ideas to shared laughter and new inspiration (plus a few surprise swag deliveries waiting at home!), the energy in the room reflected what's possible when passionate women come together with a shared purpose.

The BUILD has officially begun, and we can't wait to share what's ahead.

Mental health is health, and everyone deserves access to care that is equitable, culturally responsive, and rooted in understanding.

During Minority Mental Health Awareness Month, the Junior League of Prince George's County recognizes the importance of addressing the unique mental health challenges experienced by historically underserved communities. We believe that increasing awareness, reducing stigma, and expanding access to culturally competent resources are essential steps toward healthier individuals, stronger families, and more resilient communities.

This commitment is reflected through Every Woman. All Things., an initiative focused on empowering women through education, advocacy, and community engagement. Today, on July 4th, the Junior League of Prince George's County joins our community in reflecting on our nation's history while celebrating the place we proudly call home.

We recognize the generations who have shaped our community. Located just outside our nation's capital, Prince George's County continues to be a place where history, culture, leadership, and service come together.

We also acknowledge that our shared history is complex, reminding us that the work of building stronger, more equitable communities continues. We’re excited to share that the Junior League of Prince George's County has been awarded a $500 Spark Good Local Grant from the Walmart Supercenter in Severn, Maryland!

This generous investment will help support our mission of developing women leaders while advancing meaningful community programs and partnerships that strengthen Prince George's County. Through Walmart's Spark Good Local Grants Program, local stores invest in organizations making a positive impact where they live and serve, and we're honored to be among this year's recipients.

Thank you to the associates and leadership at Walmart Supercenter in Severn Maryland for believing in the power of community and helping us continue to create lasting impact.

✨ Throwback Thursday ✨

As we count down the final 5 days of our 5th Year since being chartered, we're looking back on one of the many moments that brought our members and community together.

Our 6th Annual Juneteenth Celebration reminded us that honoring our history, celebrating our culture, and building community are at the heart of our mission. It was a meaningful afternoon filled with reflection, fellowship, spoken word, and plenty of joy on the dance floor.

Juneteenth gave us one more reason to celebrate during an already memorable league year, and we're grateful to everyone who joined us.

Thank you for celebrating with the Junior League of Prince George's County. As we prepare to close one chapter and begin another, we remain committed to developing the potential of women and improving our community through volunteer action, collaboration, and leadership.

Celebrating 5 Years of Leadership, Service, and Impact.

As we close out the 2025–2026 League Year, we're reflecting on a year of meaningful service and celebrating five years of advancing women’s leadership and strengthening communities throughout Prince George’s County.

Through volunteer service, leadership development, strategic partnerships, advocacy, and community engagement, our members continued to make a lasting difference across the county.

A few highlights from this League year:
✨ Our Done in a Day Committee exceeded its annual goal of 500 volunteer hours, contributing 660 hours of service to the community.
✨ Our 2026 New Member Class collected 1,680 donated items through their "Healing Items for Hope" community service project, benefiting the Prince George's County Family Justice Center.
✨ Members volunteered, led, trained, fundraised, advocated, and served through countless programs and initiatives that advanced our mission and expanded our impact.
✨ Together, we celebrated five years of empowering women to become civic leaders and catalysts for lasting community change.

Every number in this reel represents something greater: a volunteer shift completed, a family supported, a future leader developed, a community partnership strengthened, and a member choosing to serve.

Thank you to our Board of Directors, Management Team, committee leaders, members, community partners, supporters, and residents of Prince George's County for making this work possible. Your dedication continues to demonstrate what can be achieved when women come together to lead with purpose and serve with heart.
