Vulnerable musings during this eclipse portal…🌝

The image is a digital collage I created during my psychology masters program for a class called “Life as Practice.” It is a depiction of my persona, the social mask or image an individual presets to the world. In class I described my persona as precise, intentional, aesthetically pleasing, and unique. My persona also includes labels like “dancer” “therapist” and “artist.”

Everyone has a persona, and it is not objectively bad, but over-identification with the persona can be problematic. This eclipse season I’ve realized how the younger, nerdy, more ordinary parts of myself were exiled and neglected, and this was exacerbated after I moved to Los Angeles. Coming from North Carolina, I felt I needed “a thing” to stand out amongst a culture of looking good/being cool. Dance was that thing for me. It has been a way to stand out ever since High School, but I relied on it even more in LA.

Three years ago I got injured, had meniscus surgery, and suddenly was unable to dance. I could no longer hide behind the mask that defined me socially. I went through an identity crisis, and mild depression. I struggled with recovery on my knee, trying to return my body to a point where I could perform and impress again. I watched my dancer friends surpass me in skill and perform on stages that I wished I could join. I felt self-conscious meeting new people and talking about myself, because I had lost my “thing.”

Eventually I let my identity as a dancer fade away, and I attempted to fill that void with other labels, cover up with other masks, all to no avail. Which brings me to these series of eclipses. What I am learning during this time is that if you live your life simply maintaining your public image, and never acknowledge or tend to the shadow parts of you, then you can become an empty shell of a person. Disconnected from the whole Self.

So as we move into this partial lunar eclipse tomorrow, the final eclipse of 2026, I release these false self-images and drop the masks. I embrace all parts of me, and drop the care that I once had about being seen or liked. Time to rediscover (and reveal) my true Self! by @jlubbz

My battle round from the Top 8 of Rumble in the Bumble at @electric_forest. Often in battles like these I don’t remember what I did so after seeing the video (thanks @megancatcho ) I was pretty proud of it. It’s been a long journey after meniscus knee surgery 3 years ago and it’s meaningful to me that I was even able to dance at a level close to where I once was. Shoutout to @greenzworth for encouraging me to enter and @d.a.n.d.o_ for hyping me up and being a kickass MC. And thanks to the judges @dsou1 and the legend @thereddreadhousehead. Had a different Lighting in a Bottle experience working with the @grandartique this year. Slangin’ pickles, trading small items, and providing unique, personalized, present interactions throughout the hot and dusty days. Much respect and appreciate for The Grand Artique and all that they do to cultivate something different. I felt instantly welcomed and found a new home. by @jlubbz

Costa Rica 2: Monteverde ⛰️
This was my favorite place from my trip. My VRBO had a balcony that overlooked a jungle stream. The night I arrived I did a night tour at El Refugio and saw frogs, scorpions, spiders, and a paca! The next day I had fun ziplining and exploring the hanging bridges at Selvatura Adventure park. Before I left, I got in another guided birding tour of Curi Cancha, spotting a playful group of howler monkeys at the end. 🐒 by @jlubbz

Costa Rica Part 1: Samara 🏝️🥭
I flew into Liberia airport and drove down to Samara in a rental car. Samara is a cute small town that is has a healthy balance of tikos (locals) and tourists. My thumb was still throbbing so I had to keep it above heart level at pretty much all times. The first night was especially painful, and when I removed my bandages it looked really bad, so my host got me in contact with a nurse who stayed past closing to see me. She confirmed it was infected and numbed it to remove the nail. I cancelled a lot of my original plans - surfing, ATV, working out - because of my wound. I still made the best of it, visiting a waterfall, going to the beach and swimming with one hand out of the water, and stumbling upon some house music and fire show on the beach. taken in Sámara, Guanacaste, Costa Rica by @jlubbz

December 2025. Winding down the year with cozy fires, fur, Nashville Christmas, home cooked meals and quality time with friends. I completed my Masters of Clinical Psychology program! 👨🏻‍🎓 One step closer to becoming a licensed therapist.
