I'm here to once again offer you all a way late social media post. A couple weekends ago I ran the Tushar Mountain Runs 100k. It was spectacular, these mountains are something special and the course is burly! The 100k comes packed with 17,700 gain and should absolutely be a bucket list race for all you masochistic mountain runners out there. I'm happy to report I finished in 13th overall. I want to give a shout to @mountaingoat88 (the guy behind me in the photo) for absolutely crushing his first 100k, finishing in 5th place! It was great sharing miles with you and watching you run a strong race my dude! Big thanks to @aravaiparunning for putting on a great race and thanks to all the volunteers who helped us all through a tough day in the mountains!

It's race week everyone! The usual nerves are starting to set in so, I'm thinking back on June and July's mountain adventures. The month and a half since my last race has been an epic ride filled with mountain peaks, ridges, trails, new friends, old friends and good times. Can't wait to run around a new to me mountain range at the @aravaiparunning Tushar Mountain 100k on Saturday!

This is a late post but there has been a lot to think about.

Last Saturday I lined up to race the North Fork 50 in Buffalo Creek, Colorado. The trails in Buffalo Creek are amazing. Smooth as butter single track through gorgeous ponderosa pine forests and parts of the burn scar from the Hayman fire. The race for me started great, I was moving well and was all smiles running with a group of guys for the first 20 miles. The sun made itself know early in the day with intense heat by 10am. Around mile 24 muscle cramps hit my legs on a climb. I was still able to move pretty well so I adjusted to a shorter stride and tried to find the winning combination of salt and water to fix my leg muscles. A combination I would never figure out, but things only got worse from there. Somewhere around 41 miles I started feeling pretty intense symptoms of heat exhaustion. Barely able to breath and unable to take a full step without my legs seizing with cramps I stumbled my way into an aid station at mile 44. I never left that aid station, instead I logged my first ever DNF. I always wondered what it would be like in that position. It was no question that I could no longer continue. I guess we're all out there running these races trying to find our limits. No doubt, I found them on Saturday. Despite my personal tribulations the race was well organized, the course was marked well and the aid stations were fully stocked with great volunteers. It's the weekend! Time to run some trails. My first race of the year is two weeks from today. I'm equal parts excited and nervous. I haven't raced since last July and I'm eager to toe a start line again. In the mean time catch me on the trails here at home, squeezing in the last miles before its go time! This post is way late but it's currently hailing out, so I'm reminiscing on warmer adventures in the desert.

A couple weekends ago the legend @pickettz and I rode the Whiterim trail out in Moab. The last few years my focus has been mostly fixed on trail running. So, of course I couldn't say no when Zach asked if I wanted to join him on this 100 mile ride around the magnificent sheer walls of the Island in the Sky in Canyon Lands National Park. While the day had some challenges, like numb hands and feet for the first 20 miles and a nasty headwind from mile 60 something until the very end. I'll mostly remember big smiles, spectacular desert backdrops, and two good buds having an awesome day on the bike. I highly recommend checking this loop out, it was a day I won't forget!

P.S. In the time it took me to write this post, the sun has come out and it's time to go running!

It's trail time baby!

So stoked to have dry trails at home. No more traveling to get on dry dirt! Although I will still travel for trails. I think this year will include a lot of traveling for trails since 2020 robbed us of that.
