Happy birthday to the legend, Billy Cox, aka @thelastgypsystanding!! Working with him on my latest album, Butterflies, Buzzards & Gypsys, was a dream come true, and I’m proud to call him friend. Doesn't matter what neck of the woods you're from — ‘Lick Creek Road’ has so much rhythm and movement, it makes you want to get up and dance.

And honestly? The world was in a lot better shape back when we were doing a whole lot of dancing. Just my humble opinion.”

Frank Beard (left), drummer for that little ol’ band from Texas, ZZ Top, has passed away…
He is now rejoined with his rhythm section partner, Dusty Hill (right), who left us in ‘21. @wearlbrown took this pic of us back in 2015. I had always been a big fan of the band and they were all cool and friendly to meet. I remember wondering where Frank found that Tab cola. RIP FB… #FrankBeard #ZZTop #Legend by @jmacdiesel

A front porch and a swing, no wonder this young man is a great artist, a natural. Just look at the laid-back country scene, easier for the inspiration to flow.

Yep, Jimi would have liked the idea of steel, and no doubt about it, Steve Hinson delivered. Jimi always got a charge whenever he was inspired to come up with something out of the ordinary, something different. Not just to be different, but to expand and to incorporate creative outreach. I can see Jimi smiling now.

"In My Time Of Dying" / "Jesus Make Up My Dying Bed" was first recorded by Blind Willie Johnson in the late 1920s. Ever since then, it has been a part of the African American Gospel tradition. Even rockers like Led Zeppelin have recorded it, and it was on Bob Dylan's debut album.

As for me, I'm so grateful that I had the opportunity to play on Johnny Mac's interpretation of "In My Time Of Dying." It has the FEEL — it takes me back home, to a small country church, right off a dirt road. ~ The Last Gypsy, Billy Cox

Did I ever tell you about Jimi being a fan of music pioneer and King of Twang, Duane Eddy? If not, we’ll talk about that at a later time.

In a lot of ways, country blues artist Johnny Mac puts me in the mind of Duane Eddy, by effecting dimensional musical pathways, whether he is playing his originals or older classics.

I’m super pleased with how Jimi’s “Little Wing” came out. Johnny Mac is accompanied by Aaron Spraggs on drums and yours truly on bass.

The sound bite might wet your whiskers, but listening to the song in its entirety, it’s a beautiful thing!

I’m excited to announce that my latest album, Butterflies, Buzzards & Gypsys, is officially released on all platforms!!! Recording my own original tunes and some of my favorite covers with the LEGEND, Billy Cox, bassist of Jimi Hendrix’s Band of Gypsys and, later, the Experience, is one of the greatest thrills of my musical career. I mean, this man played WOODSTOCK with Jimi. Absolutely incredible and inspiring to play music with a hero who is not only an amazing bassist, but is also an equally great person, and I’m proud to call him and his wife Brenda my friends. My ol’ buddy Aaron Spraggs killed it on drums and it was such an honor for us to jam with Billy because we used to cruise around listening to Band of Gypsys. 🙌🏼 We recorded at Cinderella and Purple House Studio with the great Casey Wasner engineering, mixing and co-producing with me, and Tommy Wiggins put the final mastering touches on it. Thanks to Earl for introducing me to Blake Armstrong, who is one of the top artists in the world of films and music, and who designed this badass album cover.
