Hornby Island Enduro!

What a treat to race bikes, and camp with friends on a tropical island in the sun! We live in such an amazing part of the world, and last weekend was a great reminder of why mountain biking and local travel pair so well together!

Thanks to @boomtownbikeshop @mahonybikeco and @ridefree.apparel for supporting the @101.racing team!

Our team had 3 podiums this weekend! I was 4th fastest on the day, missing the podium by just 1 second.

Reflections from the Sooke Enduro 🤘

One of the best parts of racing bikes is getting to ride somewhere new. Different locations bring completely different terrain, and riding unfamiliar trails has a way of humbling you fast. Sooke was loose, dry, steep, rocky, and technical! Very different from what we’re used to on Mount Mahony. Every stage felt like a puzzle of reading terrain and making quick decisions.

The weekend itself was what race weekends are all about: camping with friends, riding bikes, talking trails, bike setup, race lines, and just being immersed in mountain bike culture with good people.

Race day started strong for me. I was putting together some competitive times despite a leaking tire through the first couple stages. Unfortunately near the top of Stage 4, my rim exploded forcing me to run down the rest of the stage… ultimately ending my race.

I also witnessed one of my team mates take a serious crash during his run. Thankfully his recovery is going well so far ❤️💪

Weekends like this are a reminder that mountain biking, especially racing comes with real risks. But they’re also a reminder of why we love the sport so much: the challenge, the community, the camaraderie, and the shared experiences that come with it.

Even with some tough moments, I left Sooke feeling inspired to keep riding, keep learning, and keep showing up for weekends like these.

That’s bike racing. 🤙
