Puerto Rico called me home,
and I answered with an open heart.

I watched the ocean meet its shore,
that familiar embrace of turquoise and sand,
as if the island itself was welcoming me back.

I tasted a warm Mallorca,
powdered sugar dusting old memories,
a flavor that carried me straight to childhood.

I walked the street where I grew up,
past the home that loved me first,
where laughter once echoed through open windows
and every corner held a piece of my story.

The greenery seemed greener,
the beaches more beautiful,
the air filled with something I can never quite name,
only feel.

I hugged family I hadn’t seen in years,
met my cousin’s children for the very first time,
and watched new generations carry forward
the same warmth that lives in our blood.

Everywhere I turned,
our flag danced proudly in the breeze,
raised high on corner after corner,
a reminder that Puerto Ricans carry home
not just in a place,
but in our spirit.

I thought of my Taíno ancestors,
their strength woven into the roots of this island,
their legacy still beating beneath the surface
of every mountain, river, and coastline.

I heard the rhythm of our culture
in the music, the voices, the laughter,
in the way strangers greet you like family
and every gathering becomes a celebration.

Puerto Rico is more than where I was born.
It is the pulse beneath my skin,
the song in my heart,
the love that always calls me back.

And no matter where life takes me,
I will always be proud to say:
I am Puerto Rican 🇵🇷

hi. it’s me.
i disappeared from the frame but stayed on the page.
i wrote without an audience, released without applause and still, here we are.

i’ve been writing a lot lately and sharing it, which hasn’t been easy. there’s always that quiet wondering: will anyone see it, will anyone feel it, will anyone like it? but i’ve realized it isn’t about that.
it’s about the release. about letting feelings, emotions, and thoughts leave my chest and exist somewhere outside of me. this is me choosing honesty over fear, expression over silence.
i hope these words find you gently.
i hope it finds you where you are, and i hope you enjoy it.

sometimes people paint you as the villain so they don’t have to sit with the guilt of how they handled your heart. it’s easier to rewrite the story than to admit they caused harm. so they twist your boundaries into cruelty, your silence into bitterness, your healing into disrespect. but being misunderstood does not make you wrong. and someone needing you to be the bad guy does not erase the truth of what you endured. some people protect their conscience by damaging your character. let them. you don’t have to carry a version of yourself that was created to make someone else feel innocent.
