A love letter to the R32 GT-R 💌

I finally had a little time this week to edit a piece I shot with my good friend @jmgtr32 late last year. This piece had me stumped for a little bit but super glad I didn’t rush this one as I’m quite happy with the end result 🫶

A massive thank you to Jack and his friend Caolan for helping out with this project and making it possible!

Hoping 2024 is the year I can really expand my knowledge of video and get some cool pieces out there 📷

Some footage from Kirkistown Summer sprint -

Finally a chance to let the big Datsun stretch her legs in the dry !

Spent a few evenings last week making some changes to the roll bars, torque split, brake cooling, damping and I adjusted seat and moved the pedals closer together and they’ve worked wonders ! Have a lot more confidence in it now.

Car pretty much ran faultlessly all day bar one issue I’ll get to in a moment.

First timed run fell during the only bit of rain all day! Still managed a 150.8

Second timed run and with the track now dry I started to push on a bit more and ended up catching the Porsche infront ruining the run. So the time was deleted and back I went to the start for a rerun.
Now queue the brown pants moment. Coming into colonial at over a tonne the brake pedal went rock solid 😅 ( thankfully there was plenty of runoff)
Anyway after getting back to the paddock and a change of underwear I got a look at the car, I’d suspected one of the vaccum lines to the brake servo had came off but turns out the PCV blank had left the chat.
Anyway after a rummage round the tool bag a wild flywheel bolt from a cayanne was found, plastered in PTFE and we were good to go again.

Unfortunately come the 3rd run there #was oil all over the track from a gearbox failure, whilst the marshals did a great job cleaning it up there was still some residue and dust all over the racing line so it was a rite off.

Still the first run in the damp was good enough for 14th over all and 1st in class. Can’t really be bad to the can I ?

Once upon a time in BELFAST.

STREETRELEASE ARCHIVES 001.

Circa 2019.

Seven years ago, on the streets of Belfast, we photographed @jmgtr32 's S15 Silvia, a car that stood out pretty much anywhere Jack took it.

Looking back through the archives reminds us just how much things change. The cars change, their owners change, and the scene around them changes too.

Fast forward to the present day and Jack’s “toy” looks a little different.
The S15 has made way for an R32 GT-R, and these days, it’s more about putting the car to work.

If you’ve spent any time around Northern Irish tracks, chances are you’ve already seen it.

Different car. Different era. Same obsession.

Haven’t posted in a while so quick update,
Some snaps from another fantastic weekend @dubshed, although I find I’m going more to catch up with people than to see the cars !

So what’s new with the old Datsun ?
New Enkei RPF1-RS wheels work really well on it.

custom air box for the single turbo, took a lot of faffing about to get right, but fully enclosed and ducting coming to the bumper coupled with heat wrapping the exhaust manifold have significantly dropped the intake temps. It was originally aluminium piping, but changed it to stainless as it killed volume of the turbo flutter which was never going to fly 😂 Also moved the IAT sensor into the intercooler piping, they tend to heat soak in the manifold and throw the reading out.

Had the front callipers colour matched to the rears, ( great job @partsrestoreni )

Some unseen changes, improved the brake ducting setup, now using a combo of conventional piped ducting and Porsche GT3 deflectors on the caster arms.
Fitted a chassis brace between the subframe and gearbox mount, spoon subframe collars in ( yes Honda spoon).

Currently in the process of fitting a vacuum pump to feed the brake servo which should cure the inconsistent pedal feel on track so will hopefully post an update when that’s finished. by @jmgtr32

Great to finally get out on track with @96_nick_

Car ran mint all day bar feeling a bit understeery, turns out my Do-Luck 4wd controller seems to have been acting up and locked it in the most aggressive mode. Not sure if it’s fixable and the last time I seen one for sale was 4 years ago when I bought it. So that’s gonna be a fun one to sort.

Another run up the hill at cultra today !
Very tricky conditions, struggled for grip all day and never really got a clean run. But despite that
Surprisingly ended up finishing 3rd in class and 11th over all. Not to shabby for a tin top that drove there and back !
