On the first anniversary of Ethan’s death, I decided I was going to ride my bike for a stupid long time at the Polo Fields in Golden Gate Park, a place Ethan used as a training ground. I learned from my friend @blakeoftoday that “grief is love with no place to go.” So I channeled my grief into punishing myself. I don’t know if that was the best thing to do but it’s what I did.

This year we didn’t ride on the anniversary. The date snuck up on me and honestly… I felt guilty for not being more sad. I guess that’s part of the healing process.

But… this isn’t about me. It’s about the people who come together to celebrate the life of our friend. I’m so grateful to @golden_state_kate_ and @uncle_wags (and @kapinkaufmann who’s done 2 of 3). I’m also grateful to everyone who has joined for any length of time.

Tomorrow, Friday April 4 - 6AM-2PM. We’ll be doing laps at the Polo Fields in Golden Gate Park to honor our friend Ethan Boyes. Ethan was killed by a drunk driver on April 4, 2023.

I’m sorry for the late notice. I crashed two weeks ago and hit my head (among other things) and forgot all about this.

Everyone* is welcome for any length of time. Hope to see you there 💙❤️🖤💛💚

What does it take to change a legacy? Cycling is largely not a spectator sport and suffers as a result. The reach and popularity is limited by the prevailing forms.

Story suffers the most. A bike race is a story, just like any other sport: there's a beginning, middle, end. There are heroes and villains, winners and losers. For a criterium, live spectators see just 8.5% of the total story of the race. Can you imagine the frustration of only seeing 8.5% of an NBA game or a movie?

Formula Fixed is changing that. By centralizing the action, spectators can see the whole story the whole time.

We're turning cycling into the raucous spectator sport it was destined to be.
