Yes, I know. Photography is getting expensive.

But, if you have a darkroom

Hot water ( distilled, tap, or fetid - works with them all )
Kosher Salt
Silver Nitrate
Gelatin

You can make your own in about 20 minutes,
And you can add things to it if you want to make it faster unless you plan on coating glass, It doesn’t need to be “cut/noodled/washed” so it removes chances of it fogging when you make it
( unlike salted gelatin or salted paper prints it does not need t be exposed immediately )

If left as a lumen print / sun print it will have a blueish green and red hue
I’ve got some I made close to 20 years ago that look like the day they were exposed
And as a developed out paper it will have very dark blacks and browns, unless watered down then it’s light brown.
I usually use #sumatranol (from sumatran-robusta that I roast and sell ) washing soda and vitamin c powder, with a splash of whatever print or film developer I have lying around. Fix in plain hypo works best.

Yesterday I made a batch and today I just finished wet coating a bunch of paper and metal, ( darkroom/ coating station, melting emulsion, warming coating rod, sheets of home made photo paper )

Salt prints ….

One is a Hell’s Kitchen streetscape from a recent trip to NYC (taken out the window with a cellphone)
And the other is from a Tri-x 5x7 negative, 13.5” Wollensak VITAX lens on a Szabad Camera, with only modeling lights from 2 novatron mono blocks through a Larsen Soff Box and seen better days Chimera . The film was developed in Ansco 130 universal developer ( 1:6 / 8 .5 mins ) and contact printed on grade 3 AZO exposed with a 300Watt light bulb and split developed in spent ansco 130 and fresh ansco 130 ( both 1:2 ).

Both these salt prints were made from a laser printer negative that cost 80$.

If you’ve been wondering about the current state of affairs, I am too
That’s why I’m paring down my photographic practice to things that are simple and loads of fun.

2 sun prints: Providence RI, Sea weeds on the coast

The PVD /a paper negative / a box camera / contact printed onto ILF. RC paper
The weeds, / homemade emulsion / self coated 4x5 glass plate / graflex D printed onto ILF RC ..
Minimally photoshopped / burn dodge &C

inverted and printed out on cheep copier paper
used as-is / unwaxed .. gotta be careful with paraffin.

The sensitized salted paper roughly 3 hours direct sun and open shade
Finished off in the light bank for 1hour
washed fixed and cleansed.

Sorry no music in the background, but my inter cranial soundtrack is massive attack .

NaCl + AgNO3 + digital negative + UV light -> Ag + NaNO3 + Cl2. 2 salt prints, the first is from a paper negative that was printed on overhead transparency film, like from a copy shop, the second one is printed on regular copier paper. unfortunately the silver was the expensive part, but if you get it now, you won't have to get it later. double coat 13% on bienfang paper ( like single weight paper and rips if you aren't careful ) afternoon clear sky sun for 1h22m, uv light afterwards 24min, visible latent image sat unwashed for 12hours, washed in running water fixed and hung to dry documented wet ... #saltprint #sunprint #digitalnegative #contactprint #photography #modernoriginalist #blackandwhitephotography #experimental #nanianphoto
