Vision over Fear, Sharing responsibility, not hoarding it, Courage over Doubt This week we began the fifth and final book of the torah - Deuteronomy. Parshat Devarim opens with Moshe standing at the edge of the land, delivering his final address to a generation that will enter where their parents could not. We are reminded of the spies - 10 who saw giants, yet 2 who had vision. Moses understands that he cannot take full responsibility - but rather must share the burden. He thus appoints leaders to ensure the people get to the land. The parsha closes with G-ds charge to Joshua - be strong and courageous, for you are about to lead the people across. There is no promise that Joshua will not have doubt, rather the charge assumes doubt will be present and asks for courage anyway. Put together, these three pairings tell a single story: vision without conviction stays a dream, responsibility hoarded becomes a burden too heavy to bear, and courage without room for doubt isn’t courage at all — it’s just certainty. Devarim asks us to see the land clearly, carry the work together, and walk toward it anyway. That, in essence, is the charge @jnfusa answers every day.
