Stay here if you value service above all else.

At The St. Regis Bangkok, the 24-hour butler service was what stayed with me most. From preparing the bath to looking after the smallest details, the service felt personal, thoughtful and genuinely warm.

And seeing that same level of care extended to my son made it even more special.

After 15+ years in luxury hospitality, beautiful hotels will always catch my eye, but exceptional service is what I remember.

I spent my career behind the scenes of some of the world’s most exceptional destinations.

Now I experience it from the other side.

And I’ve learned that expensive and exceptional are two very different things. →

My eye was trained to notice the difference.

Long before sharing my experiences here, I spent my career creating them.

From London to Sydney, Dubai and New York - producing weddings and events for royalty, celebrities and high-net-worth private clients.

I worked in a world where the smallest details mattered, service was an art, and the goal was always the same:

Make the extraordinary feel effortless.

True luxury is often found in the details you barely notice.

In London, I learned traditional white-glove, synchronised service - where an entire table could be served in one beautifully choreographed movement.

It’s knowing when to approach without interrupting a conversation. Remembering a preference without being reminded. Anticipating what someone needs before they need to ask.

Knowing when to be present and when to disappear.

When it’s done exceptionally well, service feels almost effortless.

That’s what trained my eye and what I look for in each property or experience I visit. It’s more than remembering my name, it’s how the place makes me feel.

And the world I had spent years working behind the scenes of became something I experienced from the other side.

From the standard room to a $20,000-a-night suite, I became fascinated by one question:

What are you actually paying for?

More space and a better view are easy to see.

It’s everything else that interests me.

So now I look beyond what photographs beautifully.

Does the service match the price?

Is the suite really worth the upgrade?

Does dinner become something you’ll still talk about years later?

Did someone anticipate what you needed before you asked?

Would I spend my own money to experience it again?

Because expensive and exceptional are not the same thing.

One thing I’ve learned living in Bangkok is that Thai hospitality deserves its reputation. The warmth, attentiveness and instinct for service here is something quite unique - hospitality isn’t simply delivered well, it taken in Bangkok, Thailand by @jo.lalam

The thing that really stood out to me when I first visited Aman Nai Lert was actually something very simple.

As the doorman escorted me upstairs, he asked for my name. From that moment, “Jo” was continuously used throughout different departments of the hotel. Then, when I returned a week or so later, the doors opened into the foyer and I heard, “Welcome back, Jo!”

I frequent a lot of hotels in Bangkok, and Aman is the only one where the doormen have asked my name and then remembered me on my return. There are other hotels I’ve visited far more frequently where this still doesn’t happen.

And that, to me, is what makes Aman stand out. Exceptional service starts from the moment you arrive.

The hotel is also home to Bangkok’s largest and most exclusive suite, complete with its own private spa and gym.

The spa was another highlight for me. I had a manicure and genuinely left with the nicest my nails have ever looked. We kept them natural and short, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen my own nails look this good.

Then there’s The Lounge, with its open fire creating the perfect atmosphere for a drink while watching the sunset. I asked the team to curate a mocktail for me, and again, they completely exceeded my expectations.

I would say Aman Nai Lert is particularly suited to adults looking for something private, intimate and incredibly discreet in the heart of Bangkok. You’re within walking distance of Central Embassy, with the beautiful Nai Lert Park right in front of the hotel and some incredible restaurants nearby, including Acqua and Dolcetto.

For me, though, it comes back to the service. There are plenty of beautiful hotels in Bangkok. Being remembered before you’ve even stepped through the door is something else.

Chocolate lovers, this is a Bangkok afternoon tea I genuinely think is worth booking. 🍫

I keep coming back to The Ritz-Carlton, Bangkok for their afternoon tea, and every time the pastry team delivers.

I love that this still feels like a proper, quintessential afternoon tea, with classic finger sandwiches, incredible scones and then, of course, the chocolate.

My favourite was the chocolate Chantilly, sponge and chocolate jelly creation. Rich, silky and seriously delicious.

And Head Pastry Chef Sylvain’s scones? Still some of the best I’ve ever had. Light, fluffy and absolutely worth coming back for.

If you love chocolate, don’t miss this one.

I’ve had afternoon tea all over the world, but there were a few things at The Ritz-Carlton, Bangkok that genuinely stood out.

The new Chocolate Terroir Afternoon Tea at Caleō explores how the origin of cacao influences its flavour, aroma and texture, with chocolate from Thailand and around the world woven throughout the experience. I adore chocolate, so I couldn’t miss this one!

First, the setting. Caleō has these huge, bright windows overlooking Lumpini Park and the Bangkok skyline and it’s such a beautiful place to spend an afternoon. I’m definitely bringing my mum here next.

Then the tea. You can actually smell the different blends before choosing, which I loved. I went for their Thai tea blend and it was exceptional. Usually I like to try the signature tea, but since I already know and love it I wanted to go for something new and I certainly wasn’t disappointed.

And finally, the food. This is the only afternoon tea I’ve tried in Bangkok so far that has given me those quintessential finger sandwiches I associate with a proper afternoon tea.

But the scones… I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: The Ritz-Carlton, Bangkok makes my favourite scones in the world. Fluffy, light and never too dense. This time they came with a decadent hazelnut chocolate spread, and I could have eaten the entire jar.

Beautiful views, wonderful service and some seriously good pastry work. This is one I’d happily return to.

Unlimited oysters, smoked salmon, Wagyu, ribs and tableside tiramisu… this might be one of the best-value Saturday lunches I’ve found.

I genuinely loved this one and finished every dish. The Fire & Feast menu at ALATi starts with seafood before moving onto the charcoal-grilled meats. The sticky soy glazed Wagyu and BBQ pork ribs were standouts - alongside, quite genuinely, the best potato wedges ever.

And then the tiramisu… prepared tableside from the trolley and easily one of the best. I loved watching how it was made.

A huge compliment to Chef Philip, Pastry Chef Franck, and Ms Tejeswari, who looked after us so beautifully throughout lunch. The service was warm, attentive and exactly what I love about Siam Kempinski.

THB 1,500++ per person.

Such a good Saturday lunch in Bangkok, I’ll absolutely be back.

Unlimited oysters, smoked salmon, prawns, Wagyu, ribs and tableside tiramisu… this might be one of the best-value Saturday lunches I’ve found in Bangkok.

The Fire & Feast Unlimited Set menu at ALATi, Siam Kempinski Bangkok starts with seafood before moving onto the charcoal-grilled meats. The sticky soy glazed Wagyu and BBQ pork ribs were standouts, alongside, quite genuinely, the best potato wedges ever. I would go back for those alone.

And then the heavenly tiramisu… prepared tableside from the trolley and easily one of the best I’ve ever had. Overlooking the gorgeous resort, I can’t think of a better way spending my Saturday. Plus the walk-way connecting the hotel to Siam Paragon shopping mall just makes it an easy decision.

A huge compliment to Chef Philip, Pastry Chef Franck and Ms Tejeswari, who looked after us so beautifully throughout lunch. Warm, attentive service and such a lovely experience from start to finish.

I know where I’ll be next Saturday again..

Afternoon tea with one of the most beautiful views in Bangkok.

There’s something so timeless about Waldorf Astoria Bangkok. The Art Deco interiors, gold details and elegant atmosphere carry through to Peacock Alley on the 14th floor, overlooking the Royal Bangkok Sports Club and the city beyond. If you know me well you know I have a soft spot for Waldorf!

This afternoon I tried A Tale of Two Cultures, a collaboration between Waldorf Astoria Bangkok and Waldorf Astoria Osaka, bringing Thai and Japanese influences into their take on afternoon tea.

Beautiful setting, wonderful service and something a little different from the traditional afternoon tea.

For those of us who live in Bangkok, or simply want an excuse to spoil ourselves, a Daycation at The Siam remains one of my absolute favorite ways to spend a day in the city.

It brings together so many of the things I love about luxury hospitality: a massage in the most serene spa, afternoon tea, a beautiful riverside setting and ending the day at one of my favorite restaurants in Bangkok, the incredibly romantic Art Deco Bar & Bistro. All inside the most unique hotels in the world, I always say - if you feel like you’ve been around and seen everything - this is the place to go.

Hi, I’m Jo. After 15+ years working in luxury hospitality around the world, I now explore Bangkok’s hotels, restaurants and experiences to share what’s genuinely worth booking. Only exceptional experiences make the list.

It’s officially afternoon tea o’clock in Bangkok.

I couldn’t think of a better way to spend my afternoon after completing a successful shopping trip inside Siam Paragon than strolling over to Siam Kempinski via the connecting walkway.

Sitting down overlooking the gorgeous resort hotel in the middle of the city feels just as serene as it looks.

The service didn’t miss a beat, and the taste of the whole set, beautifully crafted by Executive Pastry Chef Franck Istel and his team, was impeccable. I finished every sweet and savory bite.

All accompanied by the beautiful sound of renowned harpist Tong Juan Wang playing live in the lobby, one of those details that made the whole afternoon feel even more special.

To finish an already gorgeous afternoon, we received two stunning scarves featuring the artwork of talented Thai artists Paveelada “Beam” Hanrungruangpan and Weerachot “Karn” Kasonboa from Artstory by Autistic Thai, whose colourful artwork inspired the Dreams in Colour Afternoon Tea itself.

Such a thoughtful way to bring art, storytelling and exceptional afternoon tea together, and a beautiful piece of the experience to take home with us.

Thank you for a wonderful afternoon @siamkempinski
