Episode 8-

A little late on this but episode 4 is out.

A lot of candle motivated lighting during the interior night scenes where the power was supposed to be out during a storm. Spending the entire episode in the ranger station was a challenge to keep interesting and not constantly be shooting the same angles over and over again.

Episode 3

Life gets tough when you make a decision to try and keep the look of the show “realistic” and then the showrunner hits you with “all the electrical power in a rural woodland town is cut, and this big emotional scene now takes place outside during a thunderstorm”

So I went, hat in hand to @saramariev_ and asked her to be patient and help me light these scenes that would otherwise certainly not have enough exposure. I then went to the cast and asked them if they could kindly use their flashlights to do the rest of the work. Which they did.

But seriously, the lighting, grip, and camera were a huge pull on this episode. From rain towers to an irreplaceable broken bulb, the team was incredible. Again Sara saved my ass when the projector bulb burnt out and Kaito ran in a 600C with a spotlight attachment in under 5 minutes, and then she remotely queued it based off of the actor’s movements to simulate changing slides, of which, we only did a single take.

Now that’s some fucking work ethic.

Eyes in the woods - Episode 1

Huge thanks to my crew for all of their hard work. I’m exceptionally lucky to have had all of you.

This episode managed to pack in some of our most gruelling sets, lighting set ups, and crane builds. I leaned very hard into the un-lit, natural look with lighting, which of course created so much more lighting than you could ever imagine. Having Sara and Viktor by my side- Two folk who understand DP’ing and lighting is what made it possible.

We shot primarily with a Ronin on the dolly and crane, made possible by Dallis and Kyan. The workflow was integral to making our days possible.
