𝐁𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐞𝐧, 𝐊𝐈 𝐮𝐧𝐝 𝐝𝐢𝐞 𝐅𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐞, 𝐰𝐢𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐫 𝐝𝐢𝐞 𝐖𝐞𝐥𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐮𝐞𝐧.

Die Ausstellung 𝐖𝐞𝐥𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐮𝐞𝐧 beleuchtet die neuen Möglichkeiten der digitalen Bildproduktion. Was als Fotografie beginnt, wird von Künstlern wie 𝗝𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗺 𝗕𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗸 zu komplexen, maschinell-generierten Bildwelten erweitert. Mithilfe von Satellitenbildern, Überwachungsaufnahmen oder KI-Generierungen erforschen sie, wie die heutige Bildkultur unsere Wahrnehmung verändert.

In der letzten Ausstellungswoche bieten wir euch die Möglichkeit, 𝗝𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗺 𝗕𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗸 über sein Projekt 𝐆.𝐄.𝐎. – 𝐆𝐞𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐩𝐡𝐢𝐜 𝐄𝐧𝐯𝐢𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐎𝐛𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 zu befragen und Näheres zu seinen virtuellen Affen zu erfahren. Dabei gibt es auf über 600qm weitere spannende Ansätze digitaler Postfotografie zu entdecken!

Together with #JoachimBlank and #KarlHeinzJeron, the Zentrum für Netzkunst has undertaken an extensive reconstruction project this year. The canonical work without addresses by the Berlin artist duo was developed and produced for #documentaX in 1997:

For several months, users were able to generate new websites, similar to what we know today from generative AI. At the end of the exhibition, the work was removed from the Internet and has not been available since.

The reconstruction team collected extensive documentation of the work and its development and compiled it in a wiki. The resulting #Netart Repository should enable a detailed examination of the work as well as further conservation efforts in the future. At the same time, a simulation of without addresses was realised in cooperation with the artists, which makes it possible to view the work in a contemporary browser. By focusing on the mediation of the work, visitors can experience the original 'feel' of the work in order to better understand the functionality and conceptual framework of the original documenta X version.

My project G.E.O. is part of the beautiful show „Viewing the world“ curated by Sabine Maria Schmidt @kassandraoptimista at Kunstsammlungen Chemnitz

Starting point of G.E.O. is my involvement with an archive of the German-language reportage magazine GEO @geomagazin ("Das neue Bild der Welt", "Die Welt mit anderen Augen sehen") from 1976 to the end of the 1990s. I photographed contents of these magazines with my smartphone while leafing through them. The resulting image archive currently comprises more than 3000 photos. They form an independent, digital image archive, from which I am using a few images for this show. In "dialog" with an AI and physical interventions, I created images that return to the physical space as fine art prints covered with epoxy layers. I also reconstructed one main topic of the magazine - primates and apes - into AR figures through burnt tree stakes in the space.

Implosion, mixed media, 2024

The title of the work refers to a concept from nuclear physics and psychology that means to explode inward, a metaphor for the process by which objects fall apart by collapsing in on themselves. In exploring the bunker’s architecture, materials and personal stories surrounding the Cold War, the politics of suspicion and Stasi surveillance, I was inspired by this relationship between global world processes and the personal experience of the experiencing subject, immersed in the unsettling anticipation of the unknown, relying on irrational ideas, messianism or escapism. During the data collection process, I met the family of a former Stasi worker, and this personal story shed light on the connection between the private and the political, who collected insects, participated in an entertainment TV show, and was a member of the Jehovah’s Witnesses sect. Some of the furniture and his personal belongings were used in the installation. A video in which the camera slowly glides across landscapes of polyethylene, under which lie the sleeping bags of bunker employees and uniforms. The sound part of the work is a 3-channel installation of sounds, borrowed motifs from 3 film soundtracks, which reveal the main lines of perception: “New life” by Philippe Grandrieux, “2001 - A Space Odyssey” by Stanley Kubrick, “The Zone” of interest» by Jonathan Glazer.
