It is a journey in which you learn about yourself through each belt level and mental hiccup. Each life lesson is embedded within the same principles: courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self-control, and indomitable spirit. However, in our individual journeys we apply these principles once we fully understand them and more specifically that our current life situations help shape how we internalize and practice these lessons.

Throughout the years of psychology, we have learned of better ways of speaking to our children. Better choices of words to encourage them and motivate them, to pick them up when they fail at something the first time and second or third time. Better choices of words to help them understand that while their feelings of disappointment are valid, failing in the beginning of something new is the first steps of succeeding. However, when us adults find something too difficult at first or too scary, we don’t always allot ourselves individually the luxury of the learning curve that we so graciously remind everyone around us. We can be our own worst critics.

But we don’t stop learning because we are no longer children. The rate at which we learn might be adjusted, but it’s not the excuse to stop the progress all together. Taekwondo for me today, is about not breaking my own spirit, not judging myself based on someone else’s journey and timeline, to continue to work towards my goals in martial arts, film and in life, no matter how long it takes or what obstacles need to be over come.

Super excited to announce our short film was officially accepted into the 2023 Katra Film Series Festival. The Blue Line- Written by the talented @hc.mov and directed brilliantly by @theerikramos, and I had the privilege of acting alongside the astounding @jjnelli.
