Jesus asks us not only to love your neighbour as yourself, but to go yet further than this, and love one's enemies, he even suggests that we should rejoice in those who PERSECUTE us so that our reward will be great in heaven? Does anybody on here succeed at this because I find it immensely hard? DISCUSS @carencollins61 et Al by @joannesavage

My brother and I grew up in a home in West Belfast in which there was a lot of intemperate speech, and perhaps it is characteristic of the Irish to speak in such fashion. This is dedicated to Brendan, who, to be fair to him, was much less guilty of intemperate speech than I was, which is why my poor Mother definitely loved him more than me by @joannesavage

Today's poem is dedicated primarily to my broseph. It's Sailing to Byzantium by the masterful WB Yeats. I have read this before, but it is so transcendentally beautiful that an encoure is called for. taken in Belfast by @joannesavage

I am not sure entirely what I mean with this painting other than that I think women should try to be furious and jacked queens like Kyla Cobbler who don't feel dictated to by men or the fascist beauty industry, but find the strength to be proud of themselves for who they are. These days we are always being pressured to be beautiful, thin, perfectly preened, to say the right things and not be disruptors in any sense. Well I say no. So long as we are not hurting anyone we should be fierce, wild, free. by @joannesavage

Tonight's poem is one of my favourites written by a Northern Irish poetr about the immense challenge of reconciliation in post-conflict Ulster, made analogous to the tensions that burned Troy in Homer's Iliad. To me this is the finest poem in Michael Longley's entire ouevre - sp pithy and yet so eloquent. by @joannesavage
