What an epic summer we had, but I’m ready for my favourite season to roll in 🍂

After 20-plus years of living in London, I still get ridiculously excited about an escape to the country. London will always be my first love, but more and more I find myself waking up on a weekend, reaching for a map and letting my finger land on somewhere new to explore.

A little while back, it landed on @thyme.england, tucked away in a corner of the Cotswolds I hadn’t discovered before. And what a find it was… [sound on for crunchy leaves 🍂 🔉]

Our September issue celebrates the enduring charm of country style, so it felt like the perfect excuse to revisit one of my favourite weekend escapes and get very excited about the season ahead. 🍂

☀️ The Stranglers may have been referring to heroin in this song, but I’m looking at the state of the grass in the garden.

We recently swapped one heatwave for another in Croatia — where, despite witnessing a wildfire and having my suitcase mauled by an easyJet bear (see final pic), we had a glorious time seeking out watering holes and taking a dip whenever possible. 💦

A (belated) birthday getaway for my favourite person: wandering new streets and celebrating all things my big sister in Antwerp 👯‍♀️ With the unexpected heatwave (like the rest of the world!), it felt more Mediterranean escape than Belgian city break ☀️

In our July issue, we explored the best places to source antiques (written by the wonderful @emmajpage) — and Antwerp is definitely one to add to the list. A city full of treasures, from fascinating antique shops and beautifully curated boutiques to a wonderful community of local creatives. Somehow, Antwerp manages to be effortlessly cool without ever feeling pretentious — just like my girl @mrsracheldeans 💫

Best job in the world? It might just be being an auntie — all the fun and much less of the responsibility. I count my lucky stars that I’m auntie to six incredible nieces and nephews.

I’ve always had a particularly close bond with my eldest niece, Amelie, so when she asked if she could do her work experience with me and the @homesandgardensofficial team, I was absolutely over the moon.

We spent such a lovely week together, and she threw herself into every opportunity. From nervously sending her very first professional email to seeing her words in print, it was so special to watch her confidence grow. She even helped create the June issue, producing not one, but five pages of content ✨✨✨

A huge thank you to Hugo and Lucinda from @rawlinsgeorge_pr for welcoming us to @westlandlondonantiques, giving us a tour and treating us to breakfast at Soho House during Amelie’s very first PR meeting. You were so generous with your advice for her.

Speaking of which, another PR agency, completely unaware that she was only 14, even asked whether she’d be interested in applying for a role with them. I don’t think there’s a better testament to how professional, capable and mature she was throughout the week.

Our June issue was an extra special one to produce, and I must give an extra special thank you to @amelie.isabella1 for making it happen ♥️✨

Our May issue took us to Milan. I hadn’t been back to Milan Design Week since my freelance days, so it felt good to return — to see and touch the new designs in person, and experience the installations I was once involved in creating myself.

A lot has changed in the last seven years. Everything feels bigger now; perhaps less about the designs themselves at times, and more about the spectacle — and, inevitably, Instagram. Still, there I was too, capturing it all…. 📸 📸 📸

There’s something about Milan during MDW that makes you see things differently. I came back buzzing, of course.

April flew by — and I’m late posting again 🫠 A few months of shoots, work trips and a bit of everything in between…

(2) Shooting with @amybettyheff and @michaelsinclair for our Design Directions feature in the April issue.
(3) Inside a beautiful 19th-century mission hall I used to walk past every week during lockdown — now home to the wonderful @nestdesign.co.uk. We used this location for our April shoot and the flowers were also courtesy of a lovely local florist (@edierosedesigns).
(4) Hosting a panel at Design Week to talk new collections alongside @kitkempdesignthread and Ann Grafton of @gpjbaker.
(5) An unexpected dose of fashion style inspiration courtesy of my father-in-law.
(6) A whirlwind trip to Milan for MDW26 (more on that soon).
(7) Spreading the word in Milan about Anthology, our new biannual US publication. Pic featuring @mrdavidnicholls and @jason__orme.
(8) On set with our fabulous Next in Design winners (announcing 12 May).
(9) Shooting one of our upcoming summer front covers.
(10) A long-overdue lunch with our subs and art team — the real backbone of it all @homesandgardensofficial
(11-15) A family escape to Devon, featuring our cute twin nieces 🤍🤍
(16) Joel out on his skateboard… and has since ended up at the doctor’s with what he thought was a broken rib.
(17) And finally, a proper dose of spring in East London — bluebells in full bloom in our local forest.

On to May 🌳

👯‍♀️ You know it’s a friendship for life when you text a pal, “I might be in your country soon,” and despite the four-hour flight ahead of them (and only a couple of weeks’ notice), they reply, “Where and what time should I meet you?”

That’s exactly what happened when I messaged my friend of 20+ years, Holli, who lives in the US. And since she’s an architect n’ that, I thought she’d be all in for the plan: a trip to Texas to discover the largest antiques fair in America. 🇺🇸

@roundtopantiquestexas invited @homesandgardensofficial to host a conversation for Designer Day at the iconic Big Red Barn. Joined by interior designer @nicolahardingandco and @joastudholme, colour curator at @farrowandball, we explored the principles of British interior design: timeless, layered and effortlessly lived-in (or even “grubby chaos,” as Nix so perfectly described it during the talk). 🇬🇧

Whether working as an editor or (previously) a set designer and stylist, I’ve spent years hunting down the best homeware destinations, but nothing quite compares to Round Top. It’s completely unique, equal parts brilliant and a little bit bonkers, with the warmest, most welcoming people you could hope to meet ☀️

Set in a tiny town of just 90 people, about an hour and a half drive from Austin, it transforms entirely for the show. Think Glastonbury, just with antiques, returning not once but three times a year (March, September and December).

Sadly, we didn’t have long at the show, but before my flight back to the UK, Holli and I slipped away to Austin, back to where we’d hung out together a decade ago. A little trip down memory lane, revisiting old haunts (with a nights stay at the retro @austinmotel) and retracing familiar steps, right down to recreating the same “I love you so much” photograph outside @joscoffee eleven years on.

@roundtopantiquestexas @bluehillsatroundtop we’ll be back one day 🤍 And @ghotihok16 — here’s to the next adventure ✨✨✨

Your February style fix awaits ✨ Just over one week left to pick up our latest issue — think small-space inspiration, storage solutions, high-street finds, checked prints done right, creative kids’ bedrooms, and lots more.

I’m usually in Paris around this time of year for Paris Déco Off — often with my birthday thrown into the mix 🎂✨ In January 2014, while styling the @romo_fabrics Paris showroom, the set-build team whisked me up the Eiffel Tower to celebrate. In 2018, things escalated into a Parisian nightclub with those from the Romo Group willing to battle sore heads the next day💃🥂 and last year, wonderful @archelo.agency, alongside a group of lovely fellow journalists, sang happy birthday over a delicious breakfast at @maisonladuree

This year, I skipped Paris entirely, heading off on a Venetian adventure with @joelbaileymusic instead 🇮🇹✨Re-sharing some of my Stories from this time last week — the only January blues were the colour of that water.. 💙

Hello 2026 👋

My husband is forever saying he’d happily live with just one season — same weather, every single day. I’m the complete opposite. Sure, today’s wet weather is bleak (!!!), but I love that it’s different from last week, and that next week will bring something else entirely. It keeps me on my toes.

Our January issue has already been and gone. I’m late posting (again). It was a joyful issue, made even more joyful by the beautiful office space by @coalcornwall on the cover.

The final stretch — it’s almost tools down time 🎄💻🎄

While working on this year’s Christmas decorating shoot – all about capturing that magical holiday glow – I had a serious case of déjà vu. As the team hoisted an enormous Christmas tree into the living room set, I couldn’t help but think back to my decorating adventures last year. I’d (foolishly) delegated tree duty to my husband, who seemed to have adopted “go big or go home” as his festive mantra. The result? An almost 12-foot spruce wedged into our average London terrace. The stand – designed for a more sensible tree – couldn’t hold it upright and the moment we cut the string, branches exploded outwards, wider than the bay window. We (well, mostly him) spent four hours sawing, trimming, wrestling the poor thing into submission until it resembled a standard 7-foot tree. Still laughing 1 year on. Merry Christmas, folks!

Next week is December(!) so I’d better pull my socks up and post about our lovely November issue.. 🏆

November saw the return of our annual Design Awards – a celebration of the projects and products that define excellence in interiors today and the creativity shaping how we live tomorrow. It is also the moment when we bring our winners together for a celebration – a chance to mark their success 🥂

What makes the occasion so special is witnessing established designers and renowned brands in conversation with emerging talents. It also gives Homes and Gardens the opportunity to discover the next generation of names to know. Among them, @josephinemunseywallpaper, winner of Best Newcomer Wallpaper Design 🏆, and @sgrinhouse, winner of Best Newcomer Fabric Design 🏆, both stood out for their originality and flair, and I have no doubt we’ll be seeing much more from them in the years ahead.

Heartfelt thanks to our Design Award judges: @kitkempdesignthread, @charu_gandhi, Jo leGleud of @madduxcreative, @miminat, @galvin_brothers, @lindaclaytonwrites and @sarah.spiteri.
