I Love painting out on the rocks under the 'Island' at St Ives when we visit. Here are a couple of my recent favourites....

Where We Watched Dolphins....Island Viewpoint St Ives. I had quite a crowd gathering around me while I was painting...which I thought was a bit odd. Then I realised they were all watching a pod of dolphins swimming past ☺️

A really fun day sketching in my workspace @graftstudios in Sandown. Yesterday I walked along the revetment to Yaverland, enjoying some of the most beautiful, captivating waves at high tide....The colours are strikingly different from those I paint on the Atlantic coast. In bright light, the lemon greens and yellows in the water really shine....
These pastel sketches often serve as references for larger paintings in oil ...but I love the spontaneity of drawing with this medium.

Cliff of Many Colours...right at the end of Culver, a study of all the beautiful tones and colours ....a favourite place to sketch.

Sea Drama....made this quick charcoal sketch at @graft_studios after seeing Culver chalk cliffs briefly highlighted by a speck of sunshine. Culver is one of my favourites local places to sketch here in Sandown Bay. The town has seen better days, it's true, but the beautiful countryside and coast has resulted in me remaining here after returning to the UK twenty five years ago.

Recent shoreline sketch in pastel...a medium I love to draw with when I'm out and about along the coast. I will be showing a selection of my larger pastels @graft_studios later in the autumn, where they will be available to purchase. These works include drawings from the Outer Hebrides, as well as Cornwall and the Isle of Wight. My works can also be viewed by appointment in my work space at Graft Studios in Sandown on the Isle of Wight.
