the lululemon biker shorts i bought you lay still, perfectly folded and wrapped in plastic. they’re sitting quietly in my drawer, patiently waiting for you to bring them to life with cartwheels and handsprings and sudden dashes through closing train doors. you’d never forgive me if i let them go to waste, so i'll wear them for you and keep up our rituals, doing all the seemingly mundane things that filled our days with a quiet, familiar and comforting joy.

when i walk through the aisles of our favourite wellcome and stumble across an interesting snack or tea, you're always the first person i think to share it with. it's muscle memory, to text you and send a photo, to let piles of treats accumulate until the next time we meet.

when december rolls around and christmas drinks return to the starbies menu, i'll wish we could skip our way to leighton centre again with your laugh echoing unapologetically through the streets of hk the entire way.

and don't worry, your arctic fox hair dye won't go to waste. we always said we’d have matching hair one day, so i'm going to make it a reality. we spent so long studying the colour wheel and plotting every transition that i know exactly what to do now, starting with your red Poison, then my purple Ritual, then your blue Poseidon, and finally your green Wrath. each shade will be a testament to the life you lived, radiant and saturated in colour. every strand will be a quiet proclamation to the universe that you are still here, brilliant and sparkling.

thank you nat, for filling my life with so much colour. you taught me what unconditional friendship looks like, with smiles that lit up every room. your finger drumming will forever be my life's soundtrack, steady and certain, lending me your quiet strength and courage. your curiosity and kindness have etched themselves into my every thought and decision, and for years to come, i'll keep asking: what would nat do?

for me, 2025 was about practicing gratitude. for family, for friends, for myself.

this year honestly went by so fast and looking through photos, i saw most of my days consumed by work (mostly pictures of my students essays) and recalled the numerous times i was overwhelmed and weighed down by the pressure to keep moving forward. towards a better job, a better paycheck, a better life.

but i also revisited many happy memories and witnessed my desire to find joy. i sought to strengthen my physical, mental and emotional stability and along the way i started repeating to myself: i am calm, i am determined, i am resilient.

each year continues to be better than the last, and for that, i am grateful.

2026, i will continue moving forward one step at a time but i hope we also find more chances to let the inner child run wild and be at peace 🤍
