I never dreamed that my work would be selected to be presented in New York City - yet here we are at our technical rehearsal at The Flamboyàn Theatre in the Clemente Center, Lower East Side Manhattan.

The greatest gift of making and performing the work-in-progress of Right Hand Woman in different cities have been the connections formed with collaborators, audiences, festival staff and volunteers after the show - sharing stories, hopes, ideas, hearts close together, hugging, dreaming, laughing and laughing, wiping away tears, holding our experiences, histories, futures, sisters, up on our shoulders with love and pride and rage and humour. I thank my collaborators, my mentors, for this opportunity to participate in the world in this meaningful way. Just a little freak woman from Alberta and her menstrual puppetry.

So much more to come. Down with the patriarchy 🔥

Music as Puppetry

Rain can’t stop us—Music as Puppetry is rescheduled for this Friday!

Music as Puppetry is a whimsical, all-ages interdisciplinary performance by Jocelyn Mah and James Watson blending live violin, contemporary dance, and mask theatre. Born from a collaborative process where choreography and music were developed side by side, the story follows “Violon”, a marionette doll, as she resists the control of the Maestro and discovers freedom through play. The work invites audiences of all ages to reflect on creativity, autonomy, and human connection.

After the performance, audience members of all ages will be invited to join in a short movement exploration, as well as an up-close look at the work’s exquisite costumes, mask and puppet. Questions and photos welcome!

📅 Friday August 28th
⏰ 7:00pm-8:30pm
📍 containR Art Park in Inglewood | 925 9 Ave SE

From Canada, Jocelyn Mah brings a bold, surreal, and unforgettable work to the International Puppet Fringe NYC Festival.

Right Hand Woman is ALSO headed to @puppetfringenyc in NEW YORK CITY this week!

It's been the surprise of a lifetime to find out that my very own Vagina Monologue will be part of the festival's official International Selections - one of only two Canadian works. A woman, her bloody tampon, and a dream... to burn the patriarchy.

New York Puppet Fringe here we come! The tittle says it all. One for Sorrow Two for Joy is an adult themed puppet show with fantastic original live music. A story about one woman growing up on the Canadian Prairies at the turn of the last century. Tender, thoughtful and funny, what more can you ask for? by @jocelyn_rocha
