AANIKOOBIJIGAN summer screenings continue!

We’re excited to be bringing the film through the Great Lakes this July with community screenings in Sault Ste. Marie, Bay Mills, and Manitoulin Island, followed by more screenings later this summer in Tokyo, Honolulu, Montreal, Philadelphia, South Korea, Sebastopol, and more soon.

These community screenings are especially meaningful to us. Aanikoobijigan was shaped by our families, our community, and the ongoing work of bringing ancestors home. After years of making the film, it means a lot to bring the film back to Anishinaabe communities and share it with the people closest to the stories, places, and work at the heart of the film.

Upcoming community screenings:

July 2 - Sault Ste. Marie, MI
with Sault Tribe Language and Culture Department
Niigaanagiizhik, 6pm
Dinner and refreshments provided, Q+A following the screening with special guests

July 7 - Bay Mills, MI
with Bay Mills Ojibwe History Department

UPDATE: Our planned July 7 Bay Mills community screening is being postponed to October 2026. We’re grateful to the Bay Mills Ojibwe History Department for working with us to try to make it happen, and look forward to bringing the film to Bay Mills this fall. Miigwech for understanding.

July 10 - Manitoulin Island
with The Ojibwe Cultural Foundation
Screening starts at 6pm
Drop-in workshop July 11, 11am-2pm

We’re also grateful that Aanikoobijigan received the 2026 imagineNATIVE Documentary Feature Award, the Sundance NEXT Audience Award, and the IFFBoston Special Jury Prize for Documentary Feature.

Chi miigwech to everyone helping bring the film home. by @jocklobster
