wow, that was quick. can't believe it's been a year + since we said we do. remembering all the before and after our wedding.

ty @malaayaadamsdesign for our save the date!

rehearsal dinner with our wedding party + parents.

@indy_mindy designed the perfect florals for the events before the wedding. they were out of this world beautiful—so talented.

mama bears!!! ty @sunshyneface for hosting a bridal shower that was soooo me. it was everything!

my girlies! every single one showed up and took care of me leading up to and on the day of our wedding. their touch was everywhere. my soul sisters!!! 🥹

we wanted to host an old skool after-church welcome lunch. i looked over and, of course, @nicojoy was helping serve food with the family. she takes care of my soul, always. ty @benelli_mattrasingh and the rest of the fam for putting this together. it’s a true testament to how everyone just jumped in to help.

@aaronasalaamica was carrying in crates, and had to change his fit multiple times 😩. rlly grateful for our community.

one of the things @stnlyjcllns and i bonded over when we first started dating was that both our dads loved to sing, were in quartets, and sang baritone.

Aunt Sybil’s house, her living room in particular, was filled with pictures of nieces and nephews, family events, traveling, and, most notably, weddings. Her living room was meticulously organized, curated with intention and care, and presented a family genealogy for young children to see.

happy independence day 🇯🇲

today i’m thinking about our language, and how it has lived through our bodies, our tongues, the breeze through the trees, the water, the night. there’s something beautiful about that.

it also has me thinking about the quiet ways colonialism lingers—not just in our institutions, but in the ways we still negotiate where Patois belongs, when it’s considered “appropriate,” and whose language is afforded legitimacy, even in our own home.

imagining what it would mean for Patois to live just as fully on our pages—to be read, studied, published, and preserved, not instead of our oral tradition, but alongside it.

late Juneteenth post. go sports. 😂⚽️

what a joy it was to watch two branches of the diaspora share the same field. beyond the game itself, i kept reflecting about Haiti and Brazil; their shared history, their relationship to one another, and what they each carry within the Black diaspora.

at the same time, looking around the stadium, particularly on the Brazil side—a country with the most Black people outside of Africa—i couldn’t help but notice how little Blackness was reflected in the stands. it made me think about visibility, access, and who gets to occupy these “global” sporting spaces. these spaces can hold so much beauty and pride while also reflecting the same systems and inequalities that exist beyond the stadium.

still, within the contradiction, for one night on Juneteenth, we watched Haiti and Brazil share the field.

cancer szn is closing… well, #cancersznisforever 🪩

thirty-five has felt so special. i am filled with so much gratitude.

i truly felt all the love that night—from my ppl flying in for one night or a few nights, or road-tripping just to celebrate me. i know the sacrifices they made to be there. the older we get, the fuller life becomes, so i will never take that kind of love for granted.

and to everyone who couldn’t be there but called, texted, posted, sent voice notes singing happy birthday to me, or found another way to make me feel loved—thank you. i felt it all.

these photos are only a tiny glimpse of everyone who loved, carried, and celebrated me on my 35th. thank you to my ppl who did my makeup and hair, helped me get dressed, pulled together decor, and handled all the special things that made the night beautiful. and thank you to my beautiful philly family through stanley, who have embraced me as their own. everyone truly rallied around me with so much love.

this year, i received so many handwritten cards, and that especially moved me. at a time when we barely put pen to paper anymore, being able to sit and read people’s words—including my little cousin’s very first card—felt incredibly sacred. y’all know her generation barely knows what a pen and paper is 😂

i planned this party fairly last-minute, but i knew exactly how i wanted it to feel: leave everything at the door, come inside, and be together.

in a world that constantly gives us whiplash between celebration and grief, may we keep holding onto one another, loving one another, and taking care of one another. it matters more than ever.

Jode-Leigh & Stanley 8-17-25💐

Last year I had the amazing opportunity to shoot my first wedding on 16mm and 8mm film.

Thank you Jode-Leigh and Stanley for trusting me to capture your beautiful day on film. Watching the amount of love that surrounds you two as you embark on this next step in your lives together was a beautiful site to see!
