Last summer, writer Andre found himself in a heartfelt moment, tears streaming as he revisited an album of photos his mother gave him during his childhood trips to Jamaica. These pictures, now decades old, became a bridge between his past and present, reminding him of his connection to another creatives' work. Enter 'YAAD, the vibrant project from photographer O’shane Howard, that reimagines nostalgic moments from Jamaica.⁣

Much like Andre's mother, Howard uses his lens to illuminate and honour the rich narratives of Black and Caribbean communities in Canada. His blend of artistry and cultural celebration redefines representation, serving as a reminder that every face carries a unique story.

Head to the link in the bio to dive into the heartfelt conversation between @andre_letman and @oshane.howard, a true testament to the magic of visual storytelling!

“Classless piece of shit,” “a f*cking idiot,” “slut.” These were the heinous comments made about 20-year-old Louisiana State University basketball player Angel Reese.⁣
Sadly, Reese's experience mirrors the discrimination countless young Black Canadian athletes face, often remaining hidden from the public eye.

In our latest issue, writer @summerpillay delves deep into a powerful exploration of the untold narratives surrounding the discrimination faced by Black women in Canadian sports.

Black queer and trans people across Canada experience violence and systemic discrimination––the deadly consequence of existing within a nation that continues to be structured by anti-Blackness and heteropatriarchy. However, in the face of audacious resistance from the larger society, Black queer and trans communities continue to advocate for change––articulating new visions for our world that completely restructures how we understand race, gender and gender identity. Through this process, Black queer and trans people have carefully curated spaces (e.g., the Ballroom scene) to experience true freedom, true joy and true love––for themselves and for each other.⁣How do Black queer and trans people experience Ballroom in Canada? And who are the Black people defining Ballroom across Canada?

Writer @andre_letman sat down with "Queen of Canada," Tamar Miyake-Mugler @tamar.carter1 to explore these questions, her journey to discovering Ballroom and her experience curating spaces in Canada for Black queer and trans communities to exist in.
