Four years ago today I drove from Orlando to Tampa to have our first real date, and I was planning on asking you to be my girlfriend. I was really nervous the whole ride over, and I called my mom and talked to her and told her all about how much I admired you and hoped we would have a future together. We moved quickly, but being the passionate fiery people that we are, anyone who knows us surely saw that coming. A year after that first date we were looking for a house to move into together, and a month after that we found out you were pregnant with Charlie. A year after seeing you so strongly and bravely deliver our son into this world, we found out you were pregnant again with our beautiful daughter Alana. We move quick. It’s been incredibly difficult and challenging but I am so grateful for everything we’ve made together. I haven’t been a great partner. Anyone who knows me well knows that I can make myself hard to love through my words and actions, sometimes I feel like I bring the worst out of people. But one thing I know is that you bring out the best in me, whatever little there is. I hope to one day become worthy and deserving of the partner that you are to me. It’s been 4 years, 2 babies, 2 houses in 2 different cities, and 11 full US tours while you have supported me and our family. I’m hoping we get another 44 years, at least. It’s been three years since I’ve posted a video of me playing guitar. It’s hard to believe that at one point(briefly) I was posting every day. The last two years have been an incredibly difficult and transitional period in my life, and it’s painstaking trying to make the time to do anything at all, including playing guitar. While it is absolutely the most joyous and fulfilling thing that I will ever know, and worth every second of sleeplessness, stress and long hours of work, being a parent has been painful too, as I feel I’ve been losing part of myself that is in music; both writing it and getting to be expressive through my instrument. I haven’t been handling this period with much grace, but I’m still learning a lot every day. Capstan has a headline tour coming up in the spring, by far our biggest and most ambitious to date. It kind of means everything for the band and its future right now. All we can do to prove ourselves to a music industry that seems to have turned its back on us somewhere along our way is show them just how much Capstan’s fans care about the music. I have met so many of our fans and toured with so many other bands and I know that the fans of Capstan’s music are some of the most dedicated out there. So if you’re still reading all this and you follow me because of my silly lil band, I’m begging you, please come out to one of these shows, bring your friends, bring the fam, I promise it will be special. You’re 30 today love, and I know you’re ready to start a new chapter and decade. I’m so grateful for your love every day, even when I don’t show it. Starting a family with you is the greatest thing I’ve ever done.I know this year has been incredibly painful, words can’t even describe it. It’s hard to truly celebrate without Alana, but i know we all feel her spirit with us, especially Charlie. I’m so excited to welcome our daughter, Alana Joan, into this world with you(any day now), to grow old with you and watch our babies grow.
